The US Open is considered the toughest test every year, but 2025 profiles to be one of the most demanding challenges in quite some time. Oakmont Country Club is playing firm and fast, with 5+ inch rough that is almost impossible to hit out of.
Big names are going to trunk slam at this event, just like they do every year. In 2024, Justin Thomas and Viktor Hovland both failed to make the weekend, and this week more stars are going to follow suit. I’ve put together my US Open best bets to make and miss the cut. Keep reading for the picks and the analysis behind them.
US Open Odds to Make/Miss the Cut
World #1 Scottie Scheffler boasts the shortest odds to make the cut at -2000, and the longest odds to trunk slam at +750. Scheffler’s miss the cut price is twice as long as his US Open odds, which tells you all you need to know about how oddsmakers expect this tournament to play out.
A little further down the board we find Sungjae Im, whose recent form and results have me itching to bet him to trunk slam on Friday.

US Open Best Bets to Miss the Cut
- Sungjae Im to Miss the Cut (+115)
- Miss the Cut Parlay: Im+Day+Rose (+803)
Im enters the week with missed cuts in two of his past three starts, including at the PGA Championship. His once reliable iron game has completely abandoned him, as he’s failed to gain strokes on approach in 10 straight events. Im isn’t just losing a stroke here or there, he’s bleeding them away with his irons. He lost 3.3 strokes last week in Canada, after losing 6.2 the week before at the Memorial, in a start he actually made the weekend in.
Sungjae Im Strokes Gained Ranks – Last 24 Rounds
Over the past 24 rounds, Im ranks 154th out of 156 players in the field in strokes gained approach. He’s 113th in ball striking over that time frame, with his around the green game the only thing saving him from a string of missed cuts. Hitting fairways and greens in regulation is paramount at Oakmont, as the rough just off the fairway and surrounding the putting surfaces is diabolical. Anyone struggling with accuracy won’t be around long, making Im a mandatory bet against this week.
I’m betting Im to miss the cut, and I’ll also include him in my miss the cut parlay with Jason Day and Justin Rose. Both Day and Rose have failed to make the weekend in back-to-back US Open’s, with Rose trunk slamming in four of his past five US Open starts.
Like Im, Rose has missed the cut in two of his past three starts, and has been bleeding strokes in all aspects of his game. Day meanwhile, hasn’t played since the PGA Championship, an event he failed to make the weekend at as well.
US Open Picks to Make the Cut
- Make the Cut Parlay: Schauffele + Morikawa + Cantlay + Young (+320)
When searching for players I do like this week, I’m putting extra emphasis on two things: Off the tee play and US Open course history at classical tracks. Four players catch my eye in that market, and I’m parlaying them together to make the cut getting +320 odds.
Let’s start with BFF’s Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay. They’re two of only four players in the field with four consecutive top-15 results at the US Open. Schauffele is a two-time Major champ and an elite driver of the golf ball, while Cantlay ranks top-7 in strokes gained off the tee and ball striking over the last 24 rounds.
Few players are as accurate with their driver or irons than Collin Morikawa, and he’s parlayed that into back-to-back T-14’s at this event, with two additional top-5 US Open results since 2021.
Last, but not least, Cameron Young narrowly missed out on a playoff in Canada last week, and has made the weekend in back-to-back US Opens. He’s gained at least 2.5 strokes off the tee in three straight starts, and ranks 20th in driving distance over the last 24 rounds.
