KBO Picks & Odds (July 7): Dinos Look to Continue Dominance Over Wyverns

It’s a new week and a new slew of KBO series coming your way, with plenty of intrigue embedded in the matchups.

The first-place NC Dinos bring their high octane offense into a favorable matchup with the SK Wyverns, while the stout KIA Tigers pitching staff figures to have its hands full against a KT Wiz Suwon group that has won six of its past eight.

Expect Dinos to Handle Wyverns

The NC Dinos (36-16) are pretty cozy atop the KBO standings, where they’ve spent the bulk of the season. Part of that is certainly thanks to the SK Wyverns (16-37), whom the Dinos have feasted on for five wins in six matchups.

NC is plus-17 in run differential in those games, including a 10-0 drubbing the last time these teams played. The Dinos boast a league-best .850 OPS, which presents a challenge for any opposing pitcher.

Add that to the fact SK has a subpar pitching staff (4.79 team ERA, seventh in KBO) and this is a matchup that sets up nicely for the Dinos.

KIA Hopes to Win with Defense

Yes, the KIA Tigers and KT Wiz Suwon have battled to an even 3-3 season split so far. But if the saying is true about defense winning championships, there’s a reason to like the Tigers in this one.

KIA has been subpar of late, with a 4-5 record in its past three series. But in that same span, they only allowed 3.9 runs per game. If you look at their season series with KT Wiz, a similar trend emerges: in the Tigers’ three wins vs. KT Wiz, they allowed only three total runs.

In part, that means KIA’s offense needs work. And it’s true, they’re in the middle of the pack in team stats like home runs (fifth), runs (seventh), and batting average (fifth).

But with how effective the Tigers can be on the mound, it’s worth laying -140 in hopes they’ll scratch across a few runs.

Doosan Dominates LG

You like picking teams that frequently beat other teams, right? Then look no further than the Doosan Bears, who’ve won five of six (and five in a row) against the LG Twins.

Doosan has a plus-19 run differential in those matchups, with only one game decided by fewer than three runs.

The Bears have been a bit up-and-down performance-wise lately — winning only four of 10 following a six-game win streak — so it’ll be nice for them to meet up with the Twins. And bettors should certainly take note.
