Slumping Yankees Look to Rebound in Rare Visit to Dodger Stadium
New York will be looking to put the brakes on a season-high four-game losing skid when they open a rare three-game road series with the Dodgers on Friday night.
The Bronx Bombers are coming off a 5-3 defeat in Oakland on Thursday that extends their current slide to four games. The club has been outgunned by a wide 25-13 margin over their past four contests, and is a meagre 1-5 in their past six contests away from Yankee Stadium.
The @Yankees and @Dodgers are the first teams to 80 wins …
This has happened twice before (1947 & 1953). Both times, they played each other in the #WorldSeries.

The Yankees hope to get a lift this weekend from some steady pitching performances. Friday’s expected starter James Paxton has earned a win in each of his past four starts, and has limited opposing hitters to two or fewer earned runs in four of his past five road starts. Saturday’s starter CC Sabathia is undefeated in three career starts against the Dodgers, going 1-0 while allowing just two total earned runs in 21.1 innings of work.
Yankees vs Dodgers Probable Starting Pitchers
James Paxton | August 23 | Hyun-Jin Ryu |
CC Sabathia | August 24 | Tony Gonsolin |
Domingo German | August 25 | Clayton Kershaw |
The Dodgers continue a six-game home stand against opponents from the AL East aiming for a sixth straight win on home turf. Coming off a three-game sweep of the Toronto Blue Jays, they are now 11-2 over their past 13, further padding their league best home record, which currently sits at an impressive 51-16.
Los Angeles pitchers have effectively shut down opposing hitters during the team’s current home surge, surrendering just 2.46 runs per game over their past 13, and two or fewer runs on eight occasions over that stretch. The Dodgers have also limited the Yankees to just 10 total runs while going 4-2 in six clashes since June 2013, but are just 4-4 in eight previous interleague matchups with New York on home turf.
Pick: Dodgers (-180)

Braves Face Tough Test in Weekend Clash with Mets
Atlanta will be aiming to extend their lead atop the NL East with a sixth straight win when they open a three-game weekend series at Citi Field on Friday night.
The Braves hit the road after taking three straight series while going 7-2 on their recent nine-game home stand. The club closed things out on Thursday with a 3-2 victory over Miami to complete a three game sweep of the Marlins, and have allowed just nine total runs over their past five outings, powering a steady 5-0 run for the UNDER in run totals betting.

This weekend marks the second series between these two clubs in two weeks. The Braves took two of three from the Mets in Atlanta last week to improve to 8-3 in their past 11 clashes with their surging division rivals. The club has also produced steady results when taking on the Mets at Citi Field, going 19-9 since June 2016.

Mike Foltynewicz | August 23 | Jacob deGrom |
Max Fried | August 24 | Zack Wheeler |
Dallas Keuchel | August 25 | Steven Matz |
But the Braves could have their hands full against a red-hot Mets squad that has remained in wild card contention while piling up five straight wins. The Mets opened their current nine-game home stand by sweeping a three-game set with the Cleveland Indians to remain nine games back of the Braves, and are just 1.5 games back of St. Louis for the second NL wild card.
#Mets will play 25 of their remaining 37 games at home, the most in the majors.
They have won 11 of their last 12 at Citi Field.

The Mets’ surge continues the club’s outstanding play on home field since returning from the MLB All-Star Break, going 14-2 in 16 contests, and winning five straight series after going winless in their previous four. New York’s rotation has contributed to the club’s recent success. Friday’s starter Jacob deGrom is a perfect 4-0 since the All-Star Break while compiling a miniscule 1.00 ERA. Sunday’s starter Steven Matz has been a steady workhorse, lasting at least 6.0 innings in five of his past six starts, going 3-1 over that stretch.
Pick: Braves (+150)
