MLB Player Prop #1: Kodai Senga Over 6.5 Strikeouts

As mentioned above, the last seven right-handed pitchers that have faced off against the Phillies have gone over their strikeout total.

Last 7 RHP vs. Phillies

Player O/U Result Date
Spencer Strider 8.5 9 6/20
James Kaprielian 4.5 6 6/17
Ryne Nelson 3.5 5 6/15
Merrill Kelly 6.5 7 6/14
Zach Davies 3.5 4 6/13
Bobby Miller 5.5 7 6/10
Trevor Williams 4.5 6 6/4

Overall, the Phillies have struck out 24.5% of the time in the past 14 days, which is the ninth-highest in the MLB in that span. Don’t let their recent winning streak fool you, this team has not been performing well at the plate recently, with a 101 WRC+, which puts them squarely in the middle of the league, 17th overall.

Senga also has elite stuff himself. He has a 1.22 K/inning rate, which puts him in the 82nd percentile, and a strikeout rate of 28.3%. That strikeout rate puts him at ninth in the MLB, of all pitchers that have pitched 70 innings. If Senga can get to 6 innings pitched, which I am confident he will be able to, then he also should be able to cash this +money strikeout prop for us as well.

Pick: Kodai Senga Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+114)

MLB Player Prop #2: Joey Wentz Over 4.5 Strikeouts

Our first pick was a +money banger, so forgive me for having the next pick being at -150 odds. Trust me, it’s worth it.

Wentz’s last start was against these same Twins, and guess what, he recorded 9 strikeouts in that game. I’m not going to sit here and tell you that Wentz has electric stuff, but the Twins strike out so often that even the Phillies are embarrassed by their numbers.

The Twins strike out 28.1% of the time against left-handed pitching, which is the second-highest in the MLB. Only Milwaukee is above them at 28.5%. The third place team is all the way down to 26.7%, which is a pretty big gap between the second and third-highest teams.

In the last two weeks, that number actually increases to 29%. Having a team strikeout rate just below 30% is truly remarkable stuff. Looking at the Twins lineup and this all starts to make sense. Of all their batters that have 100+ plate appearances, the Twins have 9 players who strike out over 25% of the time, 6 of who strike out over 30% of the time. -150 odds is never fun, but the reality is this should be closer to -700.

Pick: Joey Wentz Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-150)
