The Toronto Blue Jays (49-40, 26-22 away) are coming in hot to close out the first half of the regular season.
Toronto seeks its fifth straight win to move to a season-best 10 games over .500 when they meet the Detroit Tigers (38-49, 19-24 home) in the second game of their 3-game set.
Detroit was hammered 12-2 in the series opener Friday night.

Blue Jays vs Tigers Odds
Team | Moneyline | Runline | Total |
---|---|---|---|
Toronto Blue Jays | -234 | -1.5 (-129) | O 8.0 (-123) |
Detroit Tigers | +165 | +1.5 (-106) | U 8.0 (-111) |
The visitors are the overwhelming favorites in the MLB odds, as the Jays have -234 odds on the moneyline, an implied win probability of 70.06%. As for the total, it’s set at eight runs.
Even though they’re tied for the fourth-most wins in the American League, Toronto still sits in third in the ultra-competitive East, staring up at both the Rays and Orioles. They lead the AL in road wins with 26.
Detroit has won 11 games less than Toronto, but are also in third in the Central. They are one of just three teams in the AL yet to hit 20 home wins on the season.

Probable Pitchers
After back-to-back wins, Kevin Gausman has taken a loss and a no decision in his last two outings.
He went 5.0 innings in against the Red Sox last start, giving up five hits and two earned runs, walking one and striking out seven in a game Toronto eventually lost 5-4.

Gausman, named to the 2023 All-Star team, ranks second in the bigs in strikeouts behind Atlanta’s Spencer Strider.
The righty faced the Tigers back on April 12, going eight innings, surrendering just five hits, three earned runs and striking out 11. He earned a no-decision as Detroit won the game 4-3 in 10 innings.
Gausman vs Manning Stats
7-4 | Record | 2-1 |
3.04 | ERA | 4.84 |
1.13 | WHIP | 1.21 |
.283 | OBA | .316 |
5.41 | SO/W Ratio | 2.14 |
Third-year right-hander Matt Manning will make just his fifth start of the season. He picked up the win last week in a 14-9 win over the Colorado Rockies.
Manning threw five innings, giving up five hits and four earned runs, striking out four.
One of his starts this year was against the Blue Jays, and he was shelled. Manning went 6.0 innings, giving up five hits, four earned runs, and three homers in a 9-3 loss.
Toronto vs Detroit Player Prop Picks
Thanks to our friends at FanDuel for player props for Saturday’s game. Let’s start with Gausman, who has fanned at least eight batters in eight starts this season, including those 11 against the Tigers.
As a team, the Tigers fan 8.9 times per game this season, so let’s take the over 7.5 strikeouts (-110).

If you’re looking for a little bit more adventure, why not George Springer hitting a home run?
The Jays’ outfielder went yard last game, and he took Manning deep in their only matchup this year. Springer has yet to hit homers in back-to-back games, but at +430, those are strong enough odds to take a dip.

Blue Jays vs Tigers Prediction
Toronto has taken three of four from Detroit this season, and they’ve won seven of the last 10 in this head-to-head. They’ve also won their last six road games, and are 5-0 against the AL Central in their last five.
As a betting favorite on the road, they’re a crisp 18-9, a top-five betting mark in baseball.
Blue Jays vs Tigers 2023 H2H Results
Date | Away Team | Home Team | Result |
---|---|---|---|
July 7 | Blue Jays | Tigers | TOR, 12-2 |
April 13 | Tigers | Blue Jays | DET, 3-1 |
April 12 | Tigers | Blue Jays | TOR, 4-3 (11) |
April 11 | Tigers | Blue Jays | TOR, 9-3 |
The Tigers have been a rough bet in this matchup at Comerica of late, dropping five of their last six against Toronto. Pegged as a home ‘dog, they’re a bottom-10 bet, going 13-20.
With Gausman on the mound, fronted by an offense that’s put up over six runs a game during this win streak, it’s going to be tough for a Tigers’ unit that’s third-last in scoring in the majors to keep up.
Pick: Blue Jays -1.5 (-129)
