Probable Pitchers
The Blue Jays hand the ball to ace Hyun-Jin Ryu (12-8) to open this crucial series. The left-hander has pitched well against the Yankees this season, going 1-0 with a 2.50 ERA in three starts so far.

I think you have to go back to Roy Halladay to find a Jays pitcher who could locate all of his pitches as effectively as Ryu can… pic.twitter.com/Xb35PyRF7S

On top of that, he’s succeeded in flummoxing most of the Yankees lineup, with the Bombers having a less-than-stellar .200 team batting average against him this season. Luke Voit, Anthony Rizzo, Gary Sanchez and Gio Urshela are the only Yankees hitting better than .267 against him in their careers.

The Yankees are going with Jameson Taillon (8-5, 4.44 ERA) for this game, with the veteran right-hander coming off his worst outing of the season against the Angels, where he gave up six earned runs in 4.1 innings. That loss was his first since May, and ended a career-high 15-start undefeated streak.

Taillon is 1-1 against the Blue Jays in his career, following up a six-inning win in 2017 with a dud earlier this season, where he gave up eight hits and five earned runs in just 3.2 innings of work in an eventual 7-3 loss.
Blue Jays Rolling
Toronto enters the start of this series having just wrapped up their seventh season sweep of the season, this one against the Oakland A’s. They’re looking to continue upward momentum that has seen the Jays tie a season high by moving 11 games clear of .500. The team is also swinging some hot bats of late as well, with the Blue Jays registering 29 runs during their three-game sweep of Oakland over the weekend.

The Blue Jays and Yankees have split their season series so far 6-6, with the Blue Jays holding a slight edge in offense, scoring 44 runs to New York’s 42.
Meanwhile, the Yankees are desperately trying to recapture the magic that the team bottled up in going 13 games unbeaten, a run that ended on Aug. 28. The team has won just twice since then, and is desperate to stay in the hunt for an AL wild card.
Blue Jays vs Yankees Pick
While both teams badly need the win in the thick of a playoff race, the Blue Jays should be able to lean on their hot bats, some streaky momentum and their ace pitcher here to grab a win in the Bronx.
Pick: Blue Jays (+125)
