  • The odds and pitching matchups can be found below with a prediction

The Toronto Blue Jays will try to continue their winning ways over the New York Yankees in the Bronx — and remain in the hunt for an American League Wild Card berth — at 7:05 pm ET, Wednesday, in the third game of a four-game series at Yankee Stadium.

Blue Jays vs Yankees Odds

Team Moneyline Runline Total
Toronto Blue Jays +100 +1.5 (-180) Over 9.5 (-125)
New York Yankees -120 -1.5 (+155) Under 9.5 (+105)

Odds as of September 7h at DraftKings.

Toronto entered this week’s four-game set against their division rival as winners in four of six games in the Big Apple this season. Then, the Blue Jays blasted four home runs out of the yard in an 8-0 shutout of the Bronx Bombers on Monday in the series opener and then won a 5-1 affair in game two on Tuesday, beating Yankee ace Gerrit Cole.

Aaron Boone’s ballclub will try to avoid another home loss to Charlie Montoya’s group by sending Luis Gil to the hill Wednesday, when the Pinstripes are slight favorites.

The streaking are now only two games out of the second Wild Card spot. The Yankees, meanwhile, lost for the eighth time in ten on Tuesday and now only have a 2.5-game cushion on a playoff berth.

Probable Pitchers

On the mound, Toronto’s Alek Manoah (5-2, 3.63) faces Luis Gil (1-0, 0.00).

Manoah has been a revelation since joining Toronto’s rotation in late May. The team’s first-round pick in 2019 has tossed eight quality starts in 15 outings this season and beat the Yankees in his big-league debut May 27th, a 2-0 Jays win that saw him allow only two hits in six scoreless innings.

The 23-year-old has not earned a decision since being tagged with a loss by the Nationals in a 12-6 defeat on August 17th. Manoah went only three innings in that one, allowing six hits and six earned runs in one of his worst outings of the season.

Manoah vs Gil Key Stats

Alek Manoah
VS
Luis Gil
5-2 Record 1-0
3.63 ERA 0.00
3.63 xERA 2.36
1.06 WHIP 1.02
5.40 SO/W 2.57

The Jays have won his last three starts, though and are 11-4 in games the 6-foot-6 pitcher has started this season. He went five innings, allowing five hits, six earned runs and three walks while striking out a pair in an 11-10 win over the A’s last Friday.

The big right-hander is 2-2 with a 4.28 ERA in eight road starts this season. In twelve night game starts, he has a 3-2 record and 3.86 ERA.

As for Gil, the fellow rookie has recorded one quality start — his first one — among three starts this season. Gil was sharp in that one, going six scoreless innings and allowing only four hits and one walk while striking out six in a 13-1 blowout victory over the Orioles on August 3rd.

Gil is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in three starts at home in 2021. He’s 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA in two night game starts.

Blue Jay Way

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 40th homer of the season Monday, while Marcus Semien went deep twice and Teoscar Hernández added a big fly in Toronto’s 8-0 win Monday over New York. Guerrero has always been a thorn in the Yankees’ side, owning a .314 career average with six home runs and 24 RBI in 40 games. He also became the 10th player in MLB history with 40 homers in his age-22 season. The last was Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. in 2019.

Meantime, Semien is enjoying another incredible season. The 30-year-old hit a solo drive in the first Monday, and his fifth career grand slam in the ninth. He has five homers in his last five games heading into Tuesday. No probable Jays batter Wednesday has faced Gil, but Toronto’s marquee sluggers are hot.

New York Yankees vs Alek Manoah

Yankees Batters Batting Average vs Alek Manoah
DJ LeMahieu .000
Aaron Judge .000
Brett Gardner .000
Gleyber Torres .000

With the Yankees struggling since the franchise’s 13-game winning streak (its longest since 1961) was snapped in late August, you might expect only a handful of probable players in New York’s lineup Wednesday have been successful at the plate of late.

DJ LeMahieu is the lone member of the Pinstripes roster to be hitting over .300 in their last five games, owning a .316 (6-for-19) in that timeframe heading into Tuesday. Manoah did not face the likes of Joey Gallo, Anthony Rizzo and Gary Sanchez in May. That may make a difference.

Blue Jays vs Yankees Pick

With Toronto red-hot and sending a legit AL Rookie of the Year candidate to the mound Wednesday, the Blue Jays feel like the play in this spot.

Yes, Luis Gil has been rock solid. But I’m fading the Pinstripes.

The Pick: Blue Jays moneyline (+100)
