The San Francisco Giants (91-50, 46-27 away) keep on rolling. Even the recent home success of the Chicago Cubs (65-77, 39-34 home) proved no impediment to the San Francisco charge.

San Fran whipped the Cubs 6-1 on Friday in the opener of this three-game weekend set at the friendly confines of Wrigley Field.  The Giants extended their lead over the Los Angeles Dodgers atop the National League West Division to three games.

Oddsmakers are setting the Giants as -195 road favorites to keep the train going on Saturday against the Cubs. The 46 road wins by the Giants is the second-highest total in MLB this season.

Giants right-hander Kevin Gausman’s wOBA of 2.52 ranks among the top 10% in the league. The 30-year-old was an MLB All-Star Game selection for the first time this season.

Gausman is unbeaten since the beginning of August. He’s gone 4-0 over his past seven starts. He has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his past eight trips to the mound. Gausman has struck out 43 hitters over his last 36.2 innings of work.

He faced the Cubs on June 5. Gausman allowed two unearned runs over seven innings and got the decision in a 4-3 victory. He struck out 10 Chicago batters.

Davies in winless over his past eight starts since July 28. He’s 0-4 in that span. He’s surrendered at least four earned runs in five of those eight starts. Three times, he allowed six of more earned runs.

Facing the Giants on June 3, Davies suffered the loss in a 7-2 setback. Working 4.1 innings, Davies was touched up for eight hits and four earned runs.

Davies has made seven starts against San Francisco over his career. He’s 1-3 with a 2.88 ERA.

Giants first baseman Brandon Belt anointed himself captain of the team for Friday’s game. He taped an impromptu C to his uniform and then delivered like a leader. Belt went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, and a home run during the 6-1 win.
