The Giants’ lineup has been historically ice-cold out of the gates. Through their first 91 at-bats of the 2026 campaign, San Francisco hitters are batting a collective .143 with an abysmal .388 team OPS. They have scratched across just four total runs on three extra-base hits, struggling to consistently record a base hit or produce a timely RBI. San Diego’s pitching staff is perfectly positioned to extend this misery, holding opponents to a .202 batting average while racking up 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings.

Conversely, the Padres’ offense, while also fighting early-season friction (.204 team average), possesses the firepower to exploit a struggling pitcher. Webb uncharacteristically faltered over his first start, ballooning to a 10.80 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP, while allowing a staggering .375 opponent batting average.

Given the offensive struggles on both sides—the two clubs have combined for a mere 11 runs through their first four games—backing under 8 runs on the game total is my logical secondary wager. Neither offense has found its rhythm. San Diego is struggling to manufacture runs at Petco Park, scratching across a paltry 2.25 runs per game. Meanwhile, San Francisco has been marginally better on the road with an average of 3 runs per game.

• Logan Webb Over 5.5 Hits (+100 at bet365)

At plus-money odds, betting on San Diego to continue finding holes in Webb’s armor is the premier value on the board. His contact rates are alarming and there’s plenty of elite talent up down the Padres lineup led by Fernando Tatis Jr., Xander Bogaerts, Jackson Merrill and Manny Machado to name just a few.

Also working against Webb, is the lack of reliable relief depth, which may extend his outing even if he’s struggling out of the gate. This dynamic further reinforces the value of hammering Webb’s Over Total Hits Allowed prop.

When looking at the surface-level numbers, Webb’s start to the 2026 campaign has been a nightmare, while we’ve yet to see Marquez in action.

San Francisco holds a slight edge in raw power (1.00 home run per game vs 0.50), but San Diego is striking the ball with more authority, boasting an average exit velocity of 88.8 mph compared to 87.2 mph. If this hard contact continues, positive regression is inevitable. San Francisco will rely on Matt Chapman and Jung Hoo Lee to spark a stagnant offense, but given the stifling .198 opponent batting average from opposing pitchers, I am cautious about expecting too much success.
