Ray Pitcher of Perfection vs Cleveland
It’s a small sample size to be sure, but when Mariners left-hander Robbie Ray is facing the Guardians, his shields are up. He’s 2-0 in four career appearances against Cleveland, with a 0.90 ERA and 0.95 WHIP.

Coming off his 2021 AL Cy Young Award win the the Toronto Blue Jays, Ray’s numbers were showing regression across the board during his first season in Seattle. He led the AL with a 2.48 ERA in 2021. Ray is 6-6 with a 2.97 ERA in 20 career starts in Seattle.
Gaddis vs Ray
0-2 | Record | 12-12 |

12.20 | xERA | 3.59 |
2.45 | WHIP | 1.19 |
1.67 | SO/W | 3.42 |
Donning his spectacles as he takes the mound in his Cleveland uniform, Guardians right-hander Hunter Gaddis bears a striking resemblance to Ricky Vaughn. Checking out his stats during a brief MLB tenure, and Gaddis also resembles Vaughn. Well, at least Vaughn’s early work in the baseball cult classic Major League.
#Guardians 24yr old RHP prospect Hunter Gaddis records six strikeouts today vs the Rangers allowing just one run over his 3.2 innings.

In two starts last season for Cleveland, Gaddis was 0-2 with a 12.20 ERA and 18.41 xERA. The 28th-rated prospect in the Cleveland system, Vaughn is drawing the starting assignment in place of the injured Triston McKenzie.
Zunino Has Measure of Ray
Cleveland added catcher Mike Zunino and first baseman Josh Bell to add more pop to a lineup deep in contact hitters. Based on Zunino’s history against Ray, he might be delivering some of that pop very quickly.
In 21 at-bats facing Ray, Zunino is only hitting .238. However, he’s gone deep four times and driven in six runs. Guardians shortstop Amed Rosario is 5-for-10 (.500) off of Ray.

Outfielder AJ Pollock is the only Mariners batter to have faced Gaddis in the big leagues. He’s 0-for-2.
Guardians vs Mariners Pick & Prediction
Seattle was dominating Cleveland last season. The Mariners were 6-1 straight up and 5-2 against the run line. Overall, they’re on a 7-1 SU run against the Guardians entering opening day of the 2023 MLB season.
Couple that with Ray’s dominance of Cleveland and the overall struggles of Gaddis in his brief MLB indoctrination, and it doesn’t bode well for the Guardians
Pick: Seattle Mariners RL -1.5 (+122)
