The Boston Red Sox (90-73, 42-40 away) continued their season-long domination of the New York Yankees () on Tuesday night, riding an 11-strikeout performance from Garrett Crochet to a 3-1 win in Game 1 of their best-of-three Wild Card series. The Yankees now face elimination in Game 2 on Wednesday night, while the Red Sox can punch their ticket to the ALDS with a win.

BOS vs NYY Game 2 Starting Pitchers: Bello vs Rodon
Bello and Rodon posted similar ERAs during the regular season, but Rodon’s peripherals were much stronger. His 25.7% K-rate was above the league average while Bello’s 17.7% was well below and also the worst mark of his four-year career.
Bello’s 3.35 ERA was also well under is xERA (4.42), FIP (4.19), and xFIP (4.39).
Rodon peripherals were also higher than his actual ERA of 3.09, but the difference was not as drastic on the whole: 3.31 xERA, 3.78 FIP, and 3.89 xFIP.
Both pitchers have found plenty of success against the opposing lineups in significant sample sizes. Bello has limited the Yankees to a .234 average and .669 OPS in 134 total at-bats, giving up just four home runs, five doubles, and no triples. Aaron Judge is a brutal 2-for-21 against Bello with one double and no homers.
Rodon has limited the Boston hitters to a .228 average in 114 at-bats, though the Red Sox have a significantly higher OPS (.749) thanks to 14 extra-base hits.
