Despite Boston’s recent struggles, they still opened up as -130 moneyline favorites, in a game that features a total of 8. First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 pm ET at T-Mobile Park, with 52 degree night time temperatures in the forecast.
Probable Pitchers
Nathan Eovaldi will be charged with trying to write the Red Sox sinking ship on Tuesday, as he’ll toe the rubber for Boston. The 31-year-old has been one of the few bright spots for the Red Sox lately, as they’ve won four consecutive games started by him, and five of his past six outings.

Last time out, he scattered just three hits in a 7 inning shutout performance versus Tampa Bay, striking out eight Rays along the way. It was arguably his best start of the season and it marked the fifth time in his past six starts that he’s allowed two or fewer runs.
He’s made only one start against the Mariners this season, and it’s safe to say he didn’t have his best stuff. Eovaldi surrendered eight hits and five runs to Seattle back in April, en route to an 8-2 defeat.

Typically, Seattle is not a lineup to fear, especially at home. The Mariners rank bottom-nine in runs per game and boast MLB’s worst batting average. They average less than four runs per game at T-Mobile Park, where they’re hitting just .211, with a .368 slugging percentage.

One Seattle hitter to look out for however, is Mitch Haniger. The 30-year-old has homered in three straight games, and his three-run bomb on Monday propelled the M’s to victory.
Tyler Anderson will counter for Seattle, looking to rebound from three sub-par starts. He’s yielded 10 runs over his past 17.2 innings, and was hit hard by Houston last time out.

The Astros tagged him for seven hits and four runs, including two homers, extending his winless streak to four starts. Anderson hasn’t faced Boston this season, and aside from Enrique Hernandez and Hunter Renfroe, no active player on the Red Sox has more than five at-bats against him.

The Red Sox are still one baseball’s most potent lineups, but have been hot and cold over the past couple weeks. They’ve erupted for seven or more runs four times this month, but have crossed the plate four or fewer times in four of their past five outings.

This is a massive spot for both clubs and the way Eovaldi has been pitching lately gives the Red Sox the edge. Another reason to back Boston is their splits versus lefties like Anderson. The Red Sox produce more runs, and have a higher batting average and OBP against lefties than righties, and will likely trot out at least seven, if not eight, right-handed batters to face Anderson.
