- The New York Yankees are -167 favorites to beat the Boston Red Sox on Monday night at Yankee Stadium
- The Bronx Bombers are carriyng a nine-game win streak against the BoSox in this meeting between the two teams
- Analysis of the odds on Monday’s tilt and predictions on which way to play the outcome are outlined in the following story
It doesn’t matter who’s on the teams when the New York Yankees face the Boston Red Sox. It matters little where they’re situated in the standings.
This is a blood feud, pure and simple.
Lately, though, it’s been the Red Sox who’ve done all the bleeding. New York is taking the field Monday night in possession of an nine-game winning streak against Boston. That’s the longest run of success either side has enjoyed in this rivalry since the Red Sox also won nine games in succession in 2009.
Expectations are the Yankees will keep on winning on Monday night. Sportsbooks are establishing the Pinstripers as the -167 favorites in the Red Sox vs Yankees odds.

Yankees Play A Hurting Song
Add another Yankees player to the injured list. In a stark reminder of what went down for the Bronx Bombers a year ago, a third regular is now on the IL.
Second baseman DJ Lemahieu (sprained thumb) joined outfielder Aaron Judge (calf strain) and designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton (hamstring) on the sideline. Closer Aroldis Chapman is also on the IL, still recovering from a bout of COVID-19.
Updated notable players on the Yankees IL:
– Aaron Judge
– Giancarlo Stanton

Judge appears the closest to returning. He intends to resume baseball-related activities on Monday. Pitchers Luis Severino and Tommy Kahnle are both gone following Tommy John surgery.
As Yankees legend Yogi Berra might’ve said, it’s deja vu all over again. Last season, the Yankees lost more than 1,000 more man-games to injury than any other MLB team.
It didn’t matter. They still won the AL East title. And they’re leading the division again this season.
Perez’s Yankee Stadium Nightmare
It’s been a little over two years since Boston lefty Martin Perez made his lone career start at Yankee Stadium. It’s a sure bet that he didn’t put the newspaper clippings of his performance in a scrapbook.

On Aug. 12th, 2018, pitching for the Texas Rangers, Perez was roughed up for 11 hits and seven earned runs over five innings during a 7-2 loss to the Yankees. Both Stanton and Didi Gregorius took him deep.
Yankees Career Stats vs Perez
Player | AB | HR | RBI | AVG |
---|---|---|---|---|
Miguel Andujar | 3 | 0 | 1 | .000 |
Thairo Estrada | 0 | 0 | 0 | .000 |

Gio Urshela | 2 | 1 | 1 | .500 |
Luke Voit | 5 | 1 | 1 | .400 |

Lately, Perez has fared much better, albeit not against the Yanks. The southpaw has turned in three successive solid starts.
He’s only allowed four runs in those three starts, working a combined total of 16.2 innings. Perez is 2-1 n those starts. His ERA in those three starts is 2.20.
For the season, he’s 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA.
Montgomery’s Big Numbers
Although 10 might seem a bit high, based on Jordan Montgomery’s last two starts, an over play at odds of -108 might not be a bad decision. In Montgomery’s last start, the Yankees were 9-6 winners over the Atlanta Braves. Prior to that, he took the loss in a 5-4 setback to the Philadelphia Phillies.

In three starts this season, the 6-foot-6, 228-pound lefthander is 2-1 but with a whopping 5.17 ERA. However, his WHIP of 1.15 is below his career average of 1.25.

Kevin Plawecki | 0 | 0 | 0 | .000 |
Christian Vazquez | 6 | 1 | 1 | .500 |
Alex Verdugo | 2 | 0 | 0 | .000 |
Against the Braves, Montgomery was cruising along. He’d allowed just one hit through 5.1 innings. The next thing you know, he was giving up two straight singles followed by Marcell Ozuna’s three-run homer.
Montgomery already has a win over the Red Sox on this 2020 resume. He held the BoSox to one run over 5.1 innings as the Yanks won 5-1 on July 31 at Fenway Park.
Pick: New York Yankees (-167), over 10 (-108).
