The Colorado Rockies and Arizona Diamondbacks continue their all-NL-West series on Saturday, May 1, with first pitch scheduled for 8:10 pm ET.

The Rockies have struggled mightily away from home, losing 10 of their first 11 and hitting just six home runs. And they’re not going to have a very easy go of things in this road game with Arizona’s Zac Gallen on the mound.

About Last Night

Arizona secured, at worst, a series split against Colorado by winning on a second consecutive night, this time by a score of 7-2.

The Rockies struck first, taking a lead in the first inning, but they wound up committing four errors on the night and producing just one extra-base hit. The Diamondbacks, who’ve allowed three or fewer runs in five of their past six games (and won all five), enjoyed a four-run third inning that proved to be the difference.

Who’s Hot

Arizona catcher Carson Kelly is channeling his inner Buster Posey, posting MVP-type numbers in the early going. He had the night off Thursday, but Kelly is in the midst of a 14-game on-base streak, leading to an NL-best .507 on-base percentage.

On the other side of things is Rockies shortstop Trevor Story, who has been pretty cold lately. But he snapped an 0-for-10 skid on Thursday with an RBI triple, and he has always played well against the Diamondbacks: He has a .315 average (96-for-305) with 20 home runs in 80 career games against Arizona.

Get To Know The Starters

Colorado’s Austin Gomber (1-3, 6.65 ERA) couldn’t have pitched much worse in his most recent outing, allowing seven hits and a whopping nine earned runs in 1 2/3 innings pitched. He’s now 0-2 in three road starts this year.

Gomber hasn’t faced the Diamondbacks before, but we’re not sure it matters who he’s throwing to right now — he seems to be battling himself. Gomber has an unsightly 7.4 walks per nine innings this season, which has consistently put him in hot water.

For Arizona, Zac Gallen (1-0, 2.16 ERA) really couldn’t have pitched any better in his most recent start. He allowed just one hit in seven shutout innings while striking out six and walking two.

Gallen has been great this year, but his career numbers against the Rockies are even better. In four career starts — all since 2019 — Gallen has pitched to a 1.96 ERA against Colorado, with 28 strikeouts in 23 innings.

The Rockies have been, well, rocky on the road. Back the D’backs in this one.

Pick: Arizona Diamondbacks (-190)
