  • The Philadelphia Phillies are -265 home favorites over the Colorado Rockies in their National League afternoon game on Sunday, September 12
  • Colorado holds a 4-2 edge in the season series
  • The Phillies ended a three-game win streak held against them by the Rockies with a 6-1 victory on Saturday

The Philadelphia Phillies (72-70, 40-30 home) are skidding at exactly the worst possible time. Even a visit from the woebegotten Colorado Rockies (65-78, 20-51 away) wasn’t halting their slide.

Colorado, tied for the second-fewest road win in MLB, opened a visit for this four-game weekend series with successive victories. Philadelphia finally got off the snide with a 6-1 win on Saturday, ending a four-game losing streak.

The Phillies are being given solid -265 favorite’s odds to keep the winning going in Sunday’s series finale. Philadelphia is 17-30 against the runline this season as a home favorite.

Nola beat the Rockies on April 24. He allowed four earned runs over seven innings in a 7-5 victory. Nola is 4-0 with a 3.06 ERA in five career starts against Colorado. He shows a 1.1.7 WHIP and 8.40 strikeouts/walks ratio in his career when facing the Rockies.

Nola’s maximum exit velocity of 116 ranks among the bottom 7% of the league. By contrast, Feltner’s max EV of 104.6 rates in the top 9% of the NL.

The 25-year-old right-hander made his MLB debut September 5 against the NL East-leading Atlanta Braves. Feltner got the start, working 2.2 innings. He allowed five hits, six earned runs and three home runs. Feltner didn’t strike out a batter and walked two.

The very first pitch of Feltner’s big-league career was deposited into the right-field seats by Atlanta batter Ozzie Albies. He surrendered back-to-back jacks to Adam Duvall and Travis d’Arnaud in third inning before exiting the game.

Splitting his minor-league season between A and Double-A, Feltner was 8-3 with a 2.62 ERA in 20 starts. He was averaging 10.2 strikeouts per nine innings. It was a big step up after a 2019 campaign in A ball when Feltner was 9-9 with a 5.07 ERA from 25 starts.

Phillies vs Rockies Pick

The Phillies engineered a series of roster moves on Saturday. Outfielder Matt Joyce was activated from the 60-day IL. RHP Adonis Medina and outfielder Mickey Moniak were recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. RHP Enyel De Los Santos and Ramon Rosso were assigned to Lehigh Valley. Outfielder Travis Jankowski (bone bruise) was placed on the 10-day IL and RHP Vince Velasquez was designated for assignment.

The Rockies are 2-5 over their past seven games. A victory Sunday would give Colorado a series win for just the second time over the past six series.

As much as Nola has struggled of late and historically in September, he’s always dominated the Rockies.

Pick: Philadelphia Phillies (-265).
