Early Dvalishvili vs O’Malley 2 Prediction

Sean O’Malley gets his immediate rematch after dropping the bantamweight strap to Merab Dvalishvili last September. “Suga” has been out of action since that loss, spending the last eight months sharpening his tools and addressing the holes in his game that Dvalishvili exposed.

The first fight told us everything we needed to know about this matchup. Dvalishvili’s relentless pressure and chain wrestling overwhelmed O’Malley, who gave up six takedowns and dealt with over 10 minutes of control time.

The Georgian powerhouse has only gotten better since, defending his title with a gutsy decision win over Umar Nurmagomedov in January, where he stuffed 13 of 15 takedown attempts.

Here’s the thing about O’Malley – he’s got all the striking skills in the world. Lightning-quick hands, creative kicks, and legitimate one-punch power. Problem is, Dvalishvili doesn’t give you the space to showcase those tools. The champ shoots takedowns like a man possessed and never stops coming forward. Even when his shots don’t land clean, he’s wearing you down, making you work, draining your gas tank.

O’Malley claims he’s been living in the wrestling room since the loss, but eight months isn’t enough time to close a lifetime gap in grappling. Dvalishvili’s cardio is otherworldly – the guy can maintain the same hellacious pace for 25 minutes without breaking a sweat.

Unless O’Malley lands something huge early, this fight follows the same script as the first one. I see Dvalishvili grinding out another decision, but at -310 on the moneyline, there’s zero value. Look for the fight to go the distance at -280.

  • Dvalishvili vs O’Malley 2 Early Pick: Fight goes over 4.5 rounds -280

Early Pena vs Harrison Prediction

Julianna Pena’s grip on the women’s bantamweight title looks mighty loose heading into her showdown with two-time Olympic judo gold medalist Kayla Harrison. The champ scraped by with a controversial split decision over Raquel Pennington last October that most observers scored for the challenger.

Harrison is built like a linebacker and fights like one too. She’s steamrolled through Ketlen Vieira and Holly Holm since joining the UFC, showcasing the same suffocating top game that made her a two-division PFL champion. This is the worst possible matchup for Pena, who sports a dismal 23% career takedown defense.

Pena’s never been much of a striker, and her wrestling isn’t nearly good enough to keep this fight standing. Harrison’s judo throws are violent, and once she gets on top, it’s a wrap. The Olympic gold medalist has legitimate submission skills too, with 13 of her 18 wins coming by tap.

The only question is whether Harrison can make the weight cut down to 135 pounds without compromising her performance. She competed at lightweight and featherweight before joining the UFC, but so far she’s handled the drop without issues.

I expect Harrison to get this fight to the mat early and either pound out Pena or lock up a submission. New champ crowned inside three rounds.

  • Pena vs Harrison Early Pick: Kayla Harrison wins inside distance +100

Other UFC 316 Predictions

Joe Pyfer vs Kelvin Gastelum:

Pyfer’s got youth, size, and scary power on his side against the veteran Gastelum. The former title challenger is tough as old leather but undersized at 185 pounds. Pyfer should be able to walk through Gastelum’s shots and land the bigger blows.

  • Pick: Pyfer by KO/TKO -110

Patchy Mix vs Mario Bautista:

Mix makes his UFC debut as the former Bellator champ, bringing a smothering grappling game and 13 submission wins. Bautista’s on a seven-fight win streak but struggled to take down an aging Jose Aldo in his last outing. Mix’s size and grappling should be the difference.

  • Pick: Mix by decision +100

Kevin Holland vs Vicente Luque:

Holland’s got the reach, movement, and technical striking to make this a long night for Luque. The Brazilian banger needs to turn this into a phone booth fight, but Holland’s footwork should keep him at bay. As long as “Big Mouth” doesn’t get sloppy, he cruises.

  • Pick: Holland by decision +110
