Jorge Masvidal is coming off of a five-second knockout win over Ben Askren at UFC 239. The win was phenomenal, as Masvidal ran across the Octagon and threw a flying knee at the perfect time right when “Funky” shot for a takedown and knocked him out cold.

Following the win, he called for his title shot, which could very well happen, but a few days later asked for an ‘easy paycheck’ in fighting Conor McGregor. Online sportsbooks favor Masvidal fighting welterweight champion Kamaru Usman next.

Jorge Masvidal’s Next Fight Odds

Fighter Odds
Kamaru Usman +300
Conor McGregor +350
Nate Diaz +425
Leon Edwards +450
Rafael dos Anjos +500
Colby Covington +600

Odds taken 07/12/19.

Is There any Chance it’s McGregor?

Whether or not Conor McGregor ever fights again is something many fans, fighters, and media alike want to know. He has teased a possible return for quite some time now, but there has been little to no talk of his return to the Octagon. And, I think the Jorge Masvidal fight is extremely unlikely to happen.

Why it won’t happen is for a number of reasons. The UFC needs their biggest star to win his next fight, and fighting Masvidal is a very tough fight. And, say Khabib Nurmagomedov gets past Dustin Poirier at UFC 242, McGregor vs Khabib 2 is a massive fight and one that could be McGregor’s final fight.

Although it is good for Masvidal to call for that fight, as it would be a big payday for him, it is highly unlikely the fight happens at all.

Who’s the Best Bet?

It is tricky. If Colby Covington beats Robbie Lawler at UFC Newark on August 3, he could very well be getting the next title shot. But, I do favor Masvidal fighting for the welterweight title next, as he no doubt deserves it and has a ton of hype behind him. Even if Covington wins, I would expect Masvidal to fight Usman in November at Madison Square Garden and then “Chaos” fighting the winner.

With that, the UFC can hype up the fight as Masvidal is coming off of two knockout-of-the-year candidates. There will never be as more hype and talk behind “Gambred” than now so it makes all the sense in the world to make Usman defend his welterweight title against Masvidal next, which would be a great fight and a hard fight to choose, especially how Masvidal has looked as of late.

Pick: Kamaru Usman (+300)
