Rory MacDonald and Jon Fitch are finally about to fight to close out the first round of the Bellator welterweight Grand Prix. MacDonald, who is the current welterweight champion is putting his welterweight title on the line when he takes on the veteran Fitch.

Bellator 220: Rory MacDonald vs Jon Fitch Odds

Fighter  Odds
Rory MacDonald -240
Jon Fitch +260

*Odds taken 03/19/19

There is a reason why MacDonald is the heavy favorite over Fitch. The Canadian has fought and beat the likes of Tyron Woodley, Douglas Lima, Demian Maia, BJ Penn, and several other fighters. He used to be a top contender in the UFC before leaving for Bellator and capturing the belt.

If MacDonald is going to win this fight he will need to use his striking effectively and avoid the takedown, which Fitch is known for. If MacDonald can force the takedowns early it should be an easy night for the champion.

Meanwhile, Fitch is the underdog for the reason. He is no spring chicken as he tells me, but he is confident he has what it takes to beat MacDonald. Fitch thinks the beating MacDonald took the last fight against Gegard Mousasi will be a factor as it will still be fresh in the champion’s mind.

If Fitch is going to pull off the upset it’s rather simple what he needs to do. He needs to make it a dogfight where he just keeps taking down MacDonald and grinding him out for five rounds. If he can do that without getting caught by MacDonald it will be interesting to see.

Although I think MacDonald is going to win, there is betting value on Fitch given how big of an underdog he is. I think he has a chance to pull off the upset, and could see the odds start to go down as people start betting money on Fitch.

In the end, the value is on Fitch if you want to try and make some money, but realistically, I have MacDonald winning in a closer fight than many expect.
