The “Last StyleBender” Israel Adesanya once again enters the Octagon as the top dog in the middleweight division. After a huge knockout victory over his nemesis Alex Pereira, UFC 293’s main event feels like a bit of a letdown.
However, Izzy will have to stay razor sharp against the striking skills of Sean Strickland.
The 32-year old American is no slouch himself. A native of Riverside, California, Strickland has fought in the UFC for nearly a decade. Making his promotional debut way back at UFC 171, Strickland should not be taken lightly. He’s been in the cage with Kamaru Usman, Uriah Hall, and Alex Pereira while sporting a 14-5 record in the Octagon.
Sean Strickland is a deceptively sound defensive boxer. He’s also been notoriously tough to put away in his career, with only 2 losses by stoppage. While the sportsbooks aren’t giving Strickland much of a chance in this bout, he’s not about to lay down. Strickland will be determined to prove he deserved this title shot, and has the cardio to be a real factor deep into the championship rounds.

That being said, he likely won’t come out as aggressively as he did against Alex Pereira. Incredibly, Adesanya became the very first fighter in UFC history to regain the middleweight strap. While his technical striking can look a bit lumbered and slow at times, he has kickboxing ability to mix up his strikes. Volkov’s ability to change levels and keep Tuivasa off balance could be the difference in this one.
