The UFC rolls on in Las Vegas, Nevada this Saturday, February 27th, 2021 from the UFC Apex all leading up to March, which sees two of the best pay-per-views in recent memory.

In the main event of UFC Vegas 20, a key heavyweight bout headlines a Fight Night card for the second week in a row as Jairzinho Rozenstruik battles undefeated rising star, Ciryl Gane. The co-main event sees light heavyweight KO artist Magomed Ankalaev takes on Nikita Krylov.

Is Gane the Real Deal?

I’m surprised the UFC booked this fight between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Ciryl Gane. Both men are two of the rising stars at heavyweight which, desperately needs new blood. I thought the UFC would also try and slow build Gane but they are throwing him to the wolves as he fights one of the best strikers and hardest hitters at heavyweight in Rozenstruik.

Rozenstruik & Gane Recent Fights

This will be Ciryl Gane’s toughest test to date, but ever since his pro debut, many have called him a future UFC champion. The Frenchman fought and won TKO’s (a regional Canadian promotion) heavyweight title in his pro debut. He then made his UFC debut at just 3-0 which is unheard of. Rozenstruik, meanwhile, has a ton of kickboxing experience, and in the UFC, he has proven his power lasts the entire 25 minutes.

What makes this so fascinating is the fact both men are phenomenal strikers, and the fight could very well be who lands first. However, Gane has a massive advantage on the ground. He’s proven his jiu-jitsu skills through submission wins in his second and third UFC fights.

Early on, I expect both men to be tentative and try to find the range. I do expect Rozenstruik to use his leg kicks to try and chop Gane’s leg down. However, I expect the Frenchman to eventually shoot for a takedown and get it. Once the fight hits the ground, the undefeated contender should be able to have success and eventually score either a submission win or a ground and pound TKO. Gane inside the distance is also -135, which is a much better line to pay.

Does Ankalaev Prove He’s a Future Title Contender?

This is a perfect main, and co-main event for this card as both fights should be exciting for as long as it lasts.

Krylov &  Ankalaev Fights

Magomed Ankalaev is finally moving past the controversy of the Ion Cutelaba fight. In the first fight, the ref appeared to stop the fight early so, they ran it back, and the Russian proved he is a top-15 guy with a brutal KO win. Krylov, meanwhile, has only lost to the best of the best recently.

There is no question Ankalaev is the better striker, with Krylov being the better grappler. However, I do think the Russian will be able to keep the fight standing and just piece up Krylov. The 28-year-old hasn’t been knocked out since 2013, and I think he will be durable enough to go the distance. However, I do think Ankalaev clearly wins this fight.

Pick: Magomed Ankalaev (-340)

Other UFC Vegas 20 Picks:

1. Montana De La Rosa (+100): I still believe De La Rosa is a legit contender in this division, and I think she’s the better grappler and striker and will be able to earn a decision.
2. Jimmie Rivera (-148): The fight was postponed from UFC 258, but my pick doesn’t change. Rivera’s the better striker and will win a decision.
3. Angela Hill (-290): I like Hill to be able to outpoint Yoder for a decision. However, at this point, the line is way too high so look for Hill by decision or Fight Goes The Distance.
4. Kevin Croom (+210): Caceres is someone I like to fade, and Croom under James Krause will be great as Krause is one of the best coaches and has great gameplans to get his fighters wins.
