The UFC remains at the UFC Apex on Saturday, February 26 for UFC Vegas 49, which was supposed to see a number one contender bout at lightweight. The main event was supposed to be Islam Makhachev vs. Beneil Dariush, but an injury to Dariush forced him out, and Bobby Green stepped up on short notice. To no surprise, Makhachev is a massive favorite in the UFC Vegas 49 odds.

UFC Vegas 48 airs live on ESPN+ at 7 PM EST. The table below shows UFC Vegas 49 odds for the main card at Barstool Sportsbook followed by best bets. If you’re looking to learn how to bet UFC, this is a great, undervalued card to try a few different strategies out.

Makhachev vs Green Odds, Prediction & Best Bet

Islam Makhachev is Khabib Nurmagomedov’s protege, and he’s looked phenomenal other than his one loss when he got caught and knocked out. Bobby Green, meanwhile, fought back at UFC 271 on February 12, and now after fighting in the UFC since 2013, gets his first main event. The fight also takes place at a 160 lbs catchweight due to the short notice.

Thiago Moises, win by submission Fight 2 Al Iaquinta, win by TKO
Drew Dober, win by submission Fight 3 Rafael Fiziev, loss by decision
Davi Ramos, win by decision Fight 4 Thiago Moises, loss by decision

Green is as durable as they come and a savvy veteran, but this is a tough task for him to come in and beat Islam Makhachev on short notice. The Dagestani fighter will look to shoot for takedowns early and look to control Green. The American to have any shot in this fight will likely have to clip Makhachev with a knee or uppercut when he shoots and KO him, however, “King” isn’t known for his power.

The first takedown will be huge in this fight. If Makhachev gets Green down on the first shot he takes, that may be all he needs, but if Green can get back up to his feet, it will be a long night for the American. Yet, if he stuffs it, it has to give him a bit more confidence even though Makhachev won’t get discouraged by one stuffed takedown.

Ultimately, I expect Makhachev to be able to get Green down and will look to get him out of there early as he did to Dan Hooker, who also stepped in on short notice as he looks to make a statement. Once Makhachev gets him down early, he will be able to control Green and will end up finding the submission in the first or second round.

At -770 in the UFC Vegas 49 odds, it’s too chalky to play straight but he’s a parlay piece for this weekend. Also, look for Makhachev inside the distance and even take a small stab at Makhachev in round 1 or 2. If you’re looking for a better price, Makhachev to win is listed at -720 at DraftKings.

Pick: Islam Makhachev (-770)

Cirkunov vs Turman UFC Vegas 49 Pick

UFC Vegas 49 has a rather interesting co-main event as Misha Cirkunov has his second fight at middleweight as he takes on Wellington Turman as both men look to start to find some consistency.

Cirkunov & Turman Recent Fights

Cirkunov
VS
Turman
Krzysztof Jotko, loss by split decision Fight 1 Sam Alvey, win by split decision
Ryan Spann, loss by TKO Fight 2 Bruno Silva, loss by KO
Jimmy Crute, win by submission Fight 3 Andrew Sanchez, loss by KO
Johnny Walker, loss by KO Fight 4 Markus Perez, win by decision

Both Cirkunov and Turman have not been the most consistent fighters in their careers which makes this fight a tough one to break down. They both struggle on the feet and have questionable chins as they both have been knocked out and rocked several times. Ultimately, I expect Cirkunov to be the stronger fighter and will be able to push Turman against the fence and grind out a decision win.

As the odds suggest, this is a close fight, but Cirkunov fought at light heavyweight, and is a massive middleweight, so he will use his size here as Turman even struggled with Sam Alvey who has bigger than him. FanDuel Sportsbook lists Cirkunov at -122 in the UFC Vegas 49 odds.

Pick: Misha Cirkunov (-125)

Other UFC Vegas 49 Picks:

  • Ji Yeon Kim (-190): Kim is the better striker and will keep the fight standing and outland Cachoeira to win a decision.
  • Arman Tsarukyan (-275): Tsarukyan will be able to take Alvarez down and control him on the ground. However, the odds are too high for me to lay -275, so either parlay him or look for Tsarukyan by decision.
  • Armen Petrosyan (+140): Petrosyan looked phenomenal on the Contender Series and now drops to middleweight where he will be stronger than Rodrigues and eventually find the KO shot.
