  • The Lakers’ blockbuster deal for Anthony Davis is expected to be finalized after June 30th
  • Anthony Davis averaged 25.9 points per game in 56 games last season
  •  Lonzo Ball’s over/under assists per game are set at 6.0

The Los Angeles Lakers got their guy.

The LeBron James-led Lakers pulled off a blockbuster deal to land coveted big-man Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans — albeit at the steepest of prices. The deal sent Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Josh Hart and three first-round picks, including the no. 4 overall pick in Thursday’s NBA Draft, back the other way.

The transaction is expected to be finalized until July 1st.

However you slice it, the trade instantly moves the Lakers into title contention as Davis, who is a six-time NBA All-Star, adds another superstar piece to join James.

Following the trade announcement, bookmakers were quick to offer prop bets on the players involved, including how many points per game Davis will average and how many assists per game Ball will produce next season. Let’s delve into the numbers available.

Anthony Davis 2019-20 Statistical Production Odds

Player PPG Odds RPG Odds
Anthony Davis O 26.5 (-115) /U 26.5 (-115) O 11.5 (-115) /U 11.5 (-115)

All Odds taken 06/17/19

In three of the last four seasons, Davis has averaged 28 or more points per game. Injuries limited him to 56 games last season, but Davis still managed to score 25.9 PPG.

The line is set at 26.5 with both the over and under odds at -115. Davis is going to be a headache for Western Conference teams to handle in the post or in transition with James feeding him the ball.

One metric to track in comparison to last season is Davis’ minutes. After averaging just over 36 per game in 2016-17 and 2017-18, Davis was down to 33 last season. There may not be a whole lot of value in taking the over at this point, but you can expect those odds to decrease the closer it gets to the season.

It’s unlikely Davis will also average more than 11.5 rebounds per game next season.

Pick: Over 26.5 PPG (-115), Under 11.5 RPG (-115)

Anthony Davis Total Games Missed Odds

Player Odds
Anthony Davis O 11.5 (-140) /U 11.5 (+110)

The question will also be whether Davis will be able to stay healthy to play a full season — or anything close to it after missing so much time during the 2018-19 campaign. Davis has only played 70 or more games twice in his seven-years NBA career.

In both the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons, Davis only missed seven games and averaged 28 or more points in each of those years.

Davis has only played 70 or more games twice in his seven-years NBA career.

Before making a wager on this prop, consider looking at Davis’ injury history. Much like the Raptors did with Kawhi Leonard, the Lakers could very well ease Davis in, or at the very least have a workload system in place.

That said, it’s likely Davis will miss more than 11.5 games, not by injury, but by design — especially late into the season.

Pick: Over 11.5 games missed (-140)

Lonzo Ball 2019-20 Statistical Production Odds

Player PPG Odds APG Odds
Lonzo Ball O 11 (-115) / U 11 (-115) O 6 (-115) / U 6 (-115)

A severe ankle sprain limited Ball to 45 games in his sophomore season as the 21-year-old averaged just 9.9 points with the Lakers last year.

An over/under line of six assists per game average for Ball heading into next season has been set. Ball will have far more control in the Pelicans backcourt and will be a huge part of the team’s offense.

Ball averaged 7.2 APG in his first year and followed that with 5.4 in what turned into an injury-plagued campaign with the Lakers.

Ball will be playing with a chip on his shoulder after being part of this trade and essentially putting a sour ending to his time in a Lakers uniform. Bet on Ball to return to the 7-plus APG average.

Pick: Over 11 PPG (-115), Over 6 ASP (-115)

Brandon Ingram 2019-20 Statistical Production Odds

Player PPG Odds APG Odds
Brandon Ingram O 16.5 (-115) /U 16.5 (-115) O 5.5 (-115) / U 5.5 (-115)

Much like Ball, Ingram’s season was cut short due to injury. He played 52 games and averaged 18.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game.

First, consider taking the under on Ingram’s PPG projection of 16.5. Ingram will be entering his third season in the NBA and while using his average from last season as the basis of your wager, it’s not feasible considering he missed 30 games. The year prior when Ingram averaged 16.1 PPG, he missed 23 games.

Playing a full season will take its toll on Ingram statistically, so consider taking the under on both PPG and APG average projections.

Pick: Under 16.5 PPG (-115), Under 5.5 APG (-115)
