The Nuggets enter riding an eight-game winning streak, driven by the sensational recent play of Nikola Jokić and a red-hot Jamal Murray, who has been torching nets over his last few outings.

On the other side, the Blazers have won three straight themselves, as Deni Avdija has emerged as a crucial scoring piece. Despite his recent surge, Avdija is someone I’m looking to bet against in this Western Confernence clash.

The asbsence of Jerami Grant creates a major void in offensive usage for Portland. The primary benefactor will be Avdija, which explains his inflated points line. Oddsmakers anticipate he will serve as the undisputed primary scoring option, but the matchup is not ideal.

The Nuggets’ biggest weakness is defending without fouling, surrendering 116.8 points per game defensively. While that might yield a few extra free throws for Avdija, the 25.5-point threshold remains a historically steep number for him to clear. Over his last 10 games, Avdija is averaging just 22.8 points while shooting 43.1% from the floor.

Avdija is trending at just a 33% success rate against a 25.5 scoring line recently, going under this inflated total in four of his last six games. Asking a player who shoots just 31.7% from beyond the arc to consistently generate 26 points against a top-tier opponent is an over-adjustment. The Nuggets are a top-13 defense against enemy shooters, and yield the third lowest opponent 3-point field goal percentage.

As for the Denver offense, the Nuggets boast a staggering 119.0 Offensive Rating, generating 28.8 assists per game. Operating as the primary hub of an offense that constantly finds the open man, Jokić is positioned to rack up double-digit helpers yet again.

The Blazers’ defense has been extremely vulnerable to ball movement, allowing 26.9 opponent assists per game on the road this year. Jokić is averaging a staggering 12.7 assists over his last 10 games, and that number climbs to 12.8 over his last five outings.

From a situational trend perspective, Jokić has recorded a double-double in 25 of his 31 home games this season, hitting at an 80.6% success rate. Given his 11.2 home assist average, a massive portion of these double-doubles are driven by his elite passing.
