As the Portland Trail Blazers (5-2, 6-1 ATS) are preparing to face the Phoenix Suns (6-1. 5-2 ATS), no one has to tell anyone on the Blazers that the Suns are kind of a big deal.

Phoenix played in the NBA Finals two seasons ago. Currently, the Suns reside in second spot in the NBA power rankings.

They’re even drawing Presidential interest. Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States, is garnering speculation as a potential new owner of the Suns, who are for sale.

Riding a five-game winning streak, the Suns are set as 10-point home favorites over the Trail Blazers. Phoenix is also 5-0 against the spread over the past five games.

Portland Trail Blazers Betting Trends

The Suns have only lost once this season. It was in Game 2 of the campaign, and at the hands of the Trail Blazers. Getting a game-high 41 points at home from point guard Damian Lillard, Portland won 113-111 in overtime.

However, Lillard won’t be available for the rematch. He’s out until mid-November with a calf injury. Portland lost the game in which Lillard was hurt. The Trail Blazers are 1-1 SU since without his services. However, Portland has covered in both games minus Lillard.

Anfernee Simons and Shaedon Sharpe are filling in at the point in Lillard’s absence. Simons is averaging 22.0 points per game. Lillard is leading Portland in per-game averages for points (31.0) and assists (4.6).  Portland ranks 27th in the NBA with 16.6 turnovers per game.

The Trail Blazers are playing back-to-back games at Phoenix on Friday-Saturday. It’s the launch of a six games in nine days road trip. Despite their solid start to the season, Portland has been a betting favorite just once, against the lowly Houston Rockets.

Phoenix Suns Betting Trends

The Suns have a serious injury of their own. Center Deandre Ayton is out with a left ankle injury. He’s listed as probable for Friday’s game, however. Phoenix is 2-0 without Ayton in the lineup. Bismack Biyombo and Jock Landale are sharing center duties in Ayton’s absence.

The Suns have shot over 50% from the field in three of their past four games. Phoenix has hit for double digits in 3-point field goals in each of the last six games.

Suns guard Devin Booker has gone over 30 points in four of seven games this season. But it was forward Cameron Johnson who went off for 29 points, including seven 3-pointers, as the Suns beat Minnesota in their last game. He’s shooting 44% (22-of-50) from beyond the arc.

Johnson replaced Jae Crowder in the Phoenix starting lineup this season. The starting five for the Suns of Booker, Ayton, Johnson, Miles Bridges and Chris Paul are showing a 122.1 offensive rating this season. It actually jumps to 129.1 with Biyombo in there in place of Ayton.

Blazers vs Suns Prediction

The Trail Blazers without Lillard are like pizza without cheese and pepperoni. The Suns will be hungry to avenge their lone defeat of the season.

They’ve won five in a row at home from the Trail Blazers. The last time Portland came to visit, Phoenix won by 30 points. The Suns are 5-1 ATS in the past six home games against the Trail Blazers.

Pick: Phoenix Suns -10 (-110)
