  • The Portland Trail Blazers are 3.5-point favorites when they host the LA Clippers Tuesday night
  • Paul George (hamstring), Kawhi Leonard (ankle) and Damian Lillard (calf) will not play

It might feel like a mean-nothing November regular season matchup between the Los Angeles Clippers (12-9, 5-4 away) and Portland Trail Blazers (11-9, 4-4 home).

But as the West starts to bunch up, it’s these types of games, where there’s major star power missing, that may determine locking in a playoff spot to needing to clinch in the play-in. Or making the play-in, to dropping outside the top 10.

It all gets underway Tuesday (November 29) at 10pm ET from the Moda Center, in a game that can be seen live on TNT.

Clippers vs Trail Blazers Injury Report

The Clips, who currently occupy fifth in the West, will be down Paul George (hamstring), who will miss his fifth straight contest. He’ll be joined on the sidelines with fellow all-star Kawhi Leonard.

Since returning from a 12-game absence as he rested his ailing, surgically-repaired knee, Kawhi appeared in three games before shutting it down again after suffering an ankle injury. This will be the fourth straight game he’ll be sidelined.

John Wall (rest) will also sit this one out for LA.

Portland,  holding the first position in the play-in, will be without Damian Lillard for a fifth straight game. He’s dealing with his second calf injury in the early part of the season.

Los Angeles Betting Outlook

Missing their superstars, the Clippers found a way to stop their 2-game slide with a 114-100 win over the Indiana Pacers.

Ivica Zubac did much of the heavy lifting, scoring 31 points and grabbing 29 rebounds. He fell just one rebound short of becoming the third player to record a 30-30 game since 1982.

Norman Powell added 19 points and five rebounds, joining  Wall and Moses Brown as double-digit scorers that came off the bench.

Defensively, the Clippers held the Pacers to 38.3% shooting, including a 9-for-42 mark from downtown (21.4%). They are second in the NBA in scoring defense and fourth in 3-point shooting D, limiting teams to a 33.3% clip.

It’s a total 180 when talking offense. LA is dead last in scoring, putting up an NBA-worst 106.4 points per game. They won against Indiana despite a woeful 6-for-32 shooting effort from 3-point range.

Portland Betting Outlook

Does anyone else remember that Portland hot start, where we were all thinking the Blazers finally turned the corner with a revamped roster?

Much of that was predicated on the good health of Dame Lillard, and he just hasn’t been able to stay healthy, playing just nine games on the year so far.

Since starting out 9-3, the Blazers have dropped six of their last eight. Minus Lillard, they went 1-3 on their 4-game road trip, the most recent a 111-97 thumping at the hands of the Brooklyn Nets. It’s the second time in three games they’ve gone sub-100.

Jerami Grant followed up his 44-point effort in an OT win over the Knicks with 29 against the Nets, along with five assists and four boards. Jusuf Nurkic had 17 points, 14 rebounds and four assists.

Portland also boasts a top-10 scoring defense, allowing 110.3 points per game.

Clippers vs Trail Blazers Prediction

This is the first of three meetings between these teams this season.

Portland is just 1-7-1 against the spread in their last nine home games against teams with winning records, but the current iteration of the Clippers is missing major components of a winning team.

With the lack of star power, plus LA’s slog of an offense and both teams’ defensive prowess, it makes too much sense not to look at the total.

The under is 5-1-2 in the Blazers’ last eight games against teams with a winning record, while LA has gone under in seven of their last nine games following an ATS win. The under has also hit in six of the last eight head-to-heads at Moda Center.

Let’s bank on a tight, low-scoring affair here.

Pick:

  • UNDER 216.5 points (-110); 1 unit to win 0.91 units
  • NBA Betting Record: 12-8 ATS, 1-0 ML, 2-2 o/u; 0-1 parlays; +3.35 units
