The Luka Doncic-less Mavs secured another massive victory in Game 3 on Thursday night thanks to another standout performance from Jalen Brunson. They will likely be getting Luka back for this contest as well after he missed the first three games due to a calf strain.

Doncic Return Could Propel Mavericks

No one really gave Dallas much of a chance in this series without Doncic for the first three games. But, the Mavs have looked phenomenal as numerous players are stepping up to the plate and delivering. Brunson is proving to be a budding star, erupting for 41 in Game 2 and then putting up another 31 in Game 3, showing the ability to take over and will his team to the finish line.

He also got a ton of help on Thursday though, with six others finishing in double-figures on the scoresheet. Spencer Dinwiddie also dropped 20 points including 10 in the final quarter alone, while Maxi Kleber poured in 17 off the bench. The storyline for Dallas so far has been their lights-out three-point shooting and that continued in Game 3. they drained 42% of their triples as Kleber and Davis Bertans were red-hot from deep, making four apiece.

Right now, the Mavericks are truly playing together as a collective unit. Everyone is getting involved and contributing offensively, just in time for Luka to return. He’s currently a game-time decision for Game 4 and even if the All-Star doesn’t return yet, Dallas will be confident as ever that another win could be in the cards.

Jazz Need to Fix Defensive Miscues

Utah did show some fight in Game 3, coming back from a 17-point deficit in the second half. But, it just wasn’t enough, struggling to hit timely shots down the stretch. Quin Snyder’s group actually enjoyed a bit of success experimenting with a small-ball lineup when Rudy Gobert was in foul trouble, but as soon as the big man comes back on the floor, the Mavs expose him in mismatches.

The Jazz is a team that relies heavily on the triple. They made 14.5 per game during the regular season, the second-most in the Association. Unfortunately, Utah struggled immensely in this category in Game 3, shooting an atrocious 9-for-28. Donovan Mitchell really balled out with 32 points including 28 of them in the final two periods, while Bojan Bogdanovic and Mike Conley both posted 20+ points. There were definitely some bright spots on the offensive end, but Snyder’s squad continues to get picked apart defensively.

If Luka does play on Saturday, this is going to be an extremely tall task for the Jazz. But if he’s sidelined again, they need to do a lot better job of trying to slow down Brunson in particular, who is having his way with the Utah defense, especially inside. If Dallas is hot from downtown again, so be it. However, the Jazz needs to at least make their lives more difficult by contesting more threes.

Mavericks vs Jazz Prediction

Huge value here with Dallas. Because of their track record against the Jazz on the road, the Mavs are an underdog in the odds. I honestly don’t see them losing though, whether Luka plays or not. They’re truly firing on all cylinders and Utah has no answers for their shooting. Roll with the moneyline.

Pick: Mavericks +162
