  • A small 5-game NBA slate is what bettors will be waking up to Thursday, December 2, 2021
  • A great way to get in on the action are NBA player props which are crucial on the slower nights like tonight
  • See below to find out some of the best player props to bet on tonight

Thursday nights belong to the NFL for a few more weeks but that doesn’t mean we can’t get a little NBA action. In fact, I’d say having an NFL game means we should have more NBA action. It’s science and if we’ve leaned anything in these past couple years, it’s that we should follow the science.

Even though we only have five games on the slate, two of them are on national television. That’s almost 40% of the games (math). At 7:30pm ET, we’re getting the Chicago Bulls and New York Knicks on NBA TV. When they’re done, we’ll see the San Antonio Spurs and Portland Trail Blazers on the same channel. We don’t even need the remote after 7:20pm-ish. That’s living people.

There are more unforeseen roster changes in the NBA than any other sport. Because of that, many books are reluctant to post player prop lines too early in the day. For that reason, not all of the teams in action tonight are included in the table below. Scroll down to see the lines that are available and a couple of best bets.

Odds as of Dec 2nd at FanDuel & DraftKings

Alec Burks is That Guy

A couple games ago New York Knicks head coach, Tom Thibodeau, went through with a lineup switch that was and still is, genius. Kemba Walker was dropped from the rotation and Alec Burks was named the starting point guard. As a Kemba-guy, the move hurt a little at first but as a Burks-guy, it felt right.

After two games, it’s hard to imagine anyone being mad with the change. Burks is lighting it up so far.

The only people that don’t like the switch, besides Knicks’ opponents, are the sportsbooks. They have no clue how to price the guy. He’s gone from a bench piece to a guy that has led the team in shot attempts over the last two games. He’s taken 38 attempts in two games. That’s 19 per game and it looks like that pace is sustainable.

The Bulls aren’t a team you pick on with the guard position but just last night they gave up 49 points to LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier. My point is they can be had with backcourt players. It’s not often we see a guy that could take 20+ shot attempts being saddled with a 16.5 points prop. I think we should take the over on Burks tonight.

  • The Pick: Alec Burks 16.5 points (-104) or YOLO 20+ at FanDuel for +194

Jakob is So Sneaky Tonight

When you’re betting player props, you have to go with the under the radar guys. It’s a must because the books can’t be great when setting their numbers. Sometimes they go way over and sometimes they go way under simple because on some nights they aren’t as involved in the game plan.

It’s not easy to go unnoticed in the NBA so in order to be a great “fly under the radar” guy, you have to try. One thing you can do is try to check into a game without a jersey on.

I’m on to Jakob though. I know the guy can play when needed. In his last four games after coming back from injury and in a full time role, Poeltl has dropped at least 14 points in three of those games. The one time he didn’t was when he had to play against the Celtics and Al Horford locked him down.

The good news is, the Spurs play the Portland Trail Blazers tonight and only three teams in the NBA give up more points to the center position than Portland. Isaiah Stewart just dropped 15 on them and that guy never goes double digits. He’s only done it three times all season. Nobody is going to see Poeltl coming tonight.

  • The Pick: Jakob Poeltl Over 11.5 points (-106) or YOLO 15+ at FanDuel for +230
