It’s a light slate of games in the association on Saturday, February 27th, with just seven contests on the schedule. The red-hot Utah Jazz are in action in a cross-conference matchup with the Orlando Magic, while Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets face Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the OKC Thunder.

Arguably the game of the night, though, will be the Dallas Mavericks taking on Brooklyn Nets. Luka Doncic will have his hands full against Kyrie Irving and James Harden, who has led Steve Nash’s team to eight consecutive victories.

Big Facilitating Night From Simmons

Ben Simmons is seen as one of the best two-way players in the NBA. Sure, he gets criticized for his inability to shoot the three-ball, but the Aussie is extremely important to this Sixers team.

Playmaking is one of Simmons’ strongest attributes, averaging 7.6 assists this season to go along with 15.7 points per night. While his offensive production at the hoop has dipped slightly this year, the ability to pass the rock is still there on a nightly basis.

The former LSU star has seven games of 10 or more dimes this year, including 12-assist performances against the Miami Heat (twice) and Washington Wizards. Both of those teams have struggled across the board this season, especially defensively. By no surprise, Simmons took full advantage.

However, earlier this month, he erupted for 42 points and 12 dimes against the surging Utah Jazz. Philly lost the game, but Simmons was in his bag, dishing out filthy assists and completely exposing a solid Utah defense.

That was his last huge night from a facilitating standpoint. The 24-year old is certainly due and what better time than Saturday against a Cleveland Cavaliers team who are 25th in the league in defensive rating.

Cleveland is also towards the bottom half of the league in assists allowed per game when playing on the road. It’s the perfect opportunity for Simmons to create at a high level for his teammates.

KAT The Shooter?

When you think of Minnesota Timberwolves’ star Karl-Anthony Towns, the first thing that comes to mind is his ability to get buckets in the paint. However, he’s always been a pretty decent shooter for a big, converting on a 39.6% clip from downtown in his career.

This season, Towns is attempting just 4.8 threes per game, compared to 7.9 in 2019-20. But he’s also played just 13 times due to his COVID-19 diagnosis and a wrist injury. KAT is shooting 40.3% from long range this season in a small sample. While it’s been hard for the six-year center to get in a rhythm, he can certainly shoot it from deep.

His best game from three-point land came earlier this month against Charlotte, where Towns went 5-for-8. Other than that, he converted three times on one other occasion but on average, Towns drops about two threes a game.

KAT hasn’t gone over the 3.5 total much this year but they’re playing the Wizards Saturday, one of the worst teams in the association at defending the three-ball. Washington opponents are shooting 38.5% from long range and an even crisper 40.8% in their last three contests.

Towns is one of Minnesota’s best three-point shooters other than Malik Beasley, who is suspended. With this in mind, more attempts could definitely arise from beyond the arc on Saturday for KAT. Take a chance and bet that it’ll be a red-hot shooting night for him.
