Tough Times for Charlotte

Considering the Hornets were a play-in team in 2021-22, it’s been a miserable campaign. Between LaMelo’s injury problems and a lack of consistency on both ends, Charlotte is one of the worst teams in the Association. Ball is officially out for the rest of the season after injuring his ankle as well, which is undoubtedly a huge blow.

But, it’s doubtful the Hornets are bad enough to land the top pick in the 2023 Draft, which is going to be French phenom Victor Wembanyama. Nevertheless, they should get a top-five selection.

The losing ways continued Sunday against the new-look Nets, putting up just 86 points in the process. Kelly Oubre scored 17 points while Terry Rozier had 16. Although Brooklyn didn’t exactly shoot the light out or anything, they just frankly outplayed Charlotte, a common storyline for them this year. The Hornets have the chance to end NY’s epic streak here, but it feels unlikely.

Knicks on Fire

Don’t look now, but the Knicks are soaring up the East standings. They’re currently fifth in the NBA playoff bracket and just a game behind Cleveland in fourth. And during this current winning run, Tom Thibodeau’s squad has beaten numerous solid opponents, including the Celtics twice, Nets, Jazz, and Heat.

No one gave New York much of a chance to take down Boston on Sunday, but the Knicks did just that and shined in the process. While Julius Randle continued to ball out with a 31-piece, it was Immanuel Quickly who starred, going off for a career-high 38 points in place of the injured Jalen Brunson.

Quickley was 15 of 28 from the field in 55 minutes of action and came up big in the second overtime with seven straight points. RJ Barrett also added 29 as New York’s main guys stepped up in a big way without Brunson, especially Quickley. Randle was just named Eastern Conference Player of the Week as well after averaging 29.5 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 4.8 assists over the last four outings.

Hornets vs Knicks Prediction

9.5 points is steep, but if there was a time to believe in the Knicks covering, it would be now, especially following a big win over the C’s.

Pick: Knicks -9.5 (-110)
