NBA Summer League action continues tonight with the battle of LA. The Lakers (1-1) will face the Clippers (2-0) in Vegas, and while there is no Cooper Flagg or Dylan Harper level prospect to sweat in this matchup, there are still compelling storylines to follow.
Online sportsbooks are siding with the Lakers by a slim margin, but I think there’s more value to be found on the total. Action tips at 7:30pm PT, 10:30 pm ET at the Thomas and Mack Center, with coverage available on NBA League Pass.
Lakers vs Clippers Odds
The Lakers are currently favored by 2 points and -134 on the moneyline. The Clippers come back as +110 underdogs, while the total sits at 182.5. That number feels inflated for multiple reasons. One, there is a lack of offensive talent on both sides, and two, both squads have shown themselves to be quite competent in their own end through two games.

Lakers vs Clippers Picks and Predictions
- Under 182.5 (-112 at FanDuel)
The Lakers’ Bronny James is the biggest name in tonight’s matchup, but that has everything to do with his last name and little to do with his play on the court. After averaging just 2.3 points per game in his rookie season, James is shooting an underwhelming 36% through two Summer League contests, including 2-of-11 from beyond the arc.
James isn’t the only Laker struggling with efficiency this summer, as the team has shot below 41% in both matchups so far. Dalton Knecht is the team’s most talented offensive player, and should be back in the lineup after missing the last contest due to rest. Journeyman Cole Swider has been the Lakers’ most effective scorer, racking up double-doubles in each outing so far. He’s the only Laker to score in double figures in both games, and is averaging 21.5 points.
While the Lakers have been pedestrian on offense, the defense has been quite strong. They’ve held their first two opponents to 43% and 33% shooting, respectively, from the floor, and have racked up 17 blocks and 17 steals. Big men Darius Bazley and Christian Koloko have been stuffing the opposition relentlessly, combining for 10 blocks already, while the Lakers are fresh off forcing 15 turnovers against the Pelicans.
The Clippers, meanwhile, will likely be shorthanded again tonight. 2023 First Round pick Kobe Brown sat out last night’s win over Milwaukee with an ankle injury, and his status for tonight is in doubt. Brown is arguably the most intriguing name on the Clippers’ Summer League roster, as the team is still holding out hope he can develop into a rotation contributor.
Without Brown, the Clippers’ most dynamic offensive threat is Patrick Baldwin Jr. The 2022 First Round selection put up 22 points last night versus the Bucks, shooting 50% from the field, and gobbling up 13 rebounds. Jordan Miller scored 20+ points for the second consecutive outing, but the Clippers’ 2025 First Round pick Yanic Konan Niederhauser was a non-factor again.
The former Penn State center is off to a rough start offensively in Summer League, scoring only 3 points total in over 50 minutes of floor time. The 7-footer has made his presence felt on defense, however, racking up 13 rebounds and 5 blocks.
The Clippers have generated 40 turnovers and 12 blocks through their first two games, holding the opposition below 43% from the field in both instances.
With a lack of offensive star power on both sides and a commitment to defense from each squad, this game profiles as a low-scoring affair. Neither one of the Lakers’ Summer League games have come close to 182.5 points so far, and I’m betting this one won’t either.
If you’re thinking like me, make sure you shop for the best number. FanDuel is hanging a 182.5 point total as of Monday morning, while other books like DraftKings have already lowered the number to 180.5.
