Getting underway with the Hawks against DeMar DeRozan and the Bulls, Thursday’s NBA schedule is packed with interesting games. It’s the sort of night where two or three screens might be necessary.
Despite the expected comeback of Kevin Durant, the Nets are 3.5-point underdogs for the visit of the Miami Heat, who lost to a Jrue Holiday buzzer-beater on Wednesday. Detroit is heading north of the border to face Toronto, while two of the hottest teams in the Association meet at TD Garden with the Celtics welcoming the Grizz.
The Kings suffered yet another loss on Wednesday, and they’re straight back at it on Thursday against the Spurs. San Antonio is favored by six.
Golden State has a rematch with Dallas – the Mavs overturned a massive deficit when the teams met a few days ago, but the Dubs expect to have Klay Thompson available again after an illness. The night is rounded out with the Lakers and Clippers – it’s must-win for LeBron James and co if they are to force their way into the top half of the Play-In tournament.

Luka Doncic, DeMar DeRozan and Ja Morant, who are all on the fringes of the NBA MVP odds race, are tied for the highest points line on Thursday night at 30.5. Nikola Vucevic tops the rebounds market, while Most Improved Player candidate Dejounte Murray leads the assists at 9.5.
Kings Can’t Stop Murray
Dejounte Murray is averaging 11 assists per game and over 23 points across the last 10 games. He’s taking more field goal attempts per game than Steph Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Karl-Anthony Towns over that span.
Murray faces a Sacramento team which just gave up 125 to the Pelicans. The Kings have the 29th-ranked defense in the NBA, and their defense has been particularly porous on the second night of back to backs. They have given up 119, 126 and 121 in their last three games with no rest, a situation they find themselves in once again here.
Already enjoying a big season, Murray has taken on an even bigger role since Derrick White was traded to the Celtics. Across the last 10, he’s got a higher assist rate than Nikola Jokic, and a better true shooting than Devin Booker and Luka Doncic.
Both the Kings and Spurs like to get out and run, generating extra possessions and easy opportunities for Murray. This is a game where Murray should flourish – take the over on this points and assists line.

Brunson Hits Points Over
Jalen Brunson only scored eight when the Mavericks faced the Warriors at the weekend. The Dallas guard sees his points line set at 15.5 for Thursday’s game, which is on the low side for a player who has scored 16 or more in eight of his last 11.

Brunson is averaging almost 18 per game over that span on 50.3% from the field and almost 48% from three. He’s also over 60% in true shooting over this period, making him one of the most efficient backcourt scorers in the league. The development of the Villanova guard is no secret, but his play has been overshadowed in recent weeks by the majestic displays of Luka Doncic.
Golden State’s defense is middle of the pack without Draymond Green. Their defense is designed to give up the mid ranger, which is where Brunson is so comfortable (ranking in the 88th percentile in mid-range efficiency). Only four teams give up more mid-range shots than the Dubs – Brunson takes 56% shots of his shots from the mid-range, more than any other combo guard in the NBA.
Brunson is still playing at least 30 minutes per night even since Spencer Dinwiddie arrived at the deadline. He’s had a couple of quiet games lately, but he’s a good bet to score 16 or more on Thursday.
