The Mavericks are playing with house money after shutting down Cooper Flagg. The No. 1 pick dropped 41 points in two games before Dallas decided they’d seen enough.

Without their star rookie, the Mavs managed just 69 points in Monday’s loss to Charlotte. Now they face a 76ers team that just held Washington to 58 points in their most complete defensive performance of the summer.

Mavericks vs 76ers Picks

This total screams under. Dallas has scored exactly 69 points in back-to-back games, including Saturday’s contest when Flagg erupted for 31. Without him, the offensive struggles are even more pronounced.

The Mavericks shot just 34.4% from the field against Charlotte. They managed only 16 points in the first quarter and never found any rhythm. Ryan Nembhard bounced back with 11 points and eight assists, but he can’t carry this offense alone.

Philadelphia’s defense dominated Tuesday. They held Washington to just 58 points on 31.9% shooting. Adem Bona swatted six shots while the 76ers forced 21 turnovers. That’s the blueprint they’ll follow against a Mavs team missing its primary creator.

VJ Edgecombe returned from injury to score 15 points against the Wizards. The third overall pick shot just 28.6% from the field but got to the line six times. His defense and energy changed the game even when shots weren’t falling.

The 76ers have more NBA-ready talent across their roster. Justin Edwards leads the team with 12.3 points per game while second-round pick Johni Broome posted a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double Tuesday. Both players offer the consistency Dallas lacks without Flagg.

Miles Kelly provides Dallas’ best scoring punch with 11.7 points per game. The Auburn product has shown his shooting range but needs volume to make an impact. Against Charlotte, he took just seven shots in 22 minutes.

Mavericks vs 76ers Predictions

The Mavs averaged 81.5 points with Flagg in the lineup. Without him, that number plummets to 69. They simply don’t have enough creators to generate quality looks against Philadelphia’s improving defense.

Moussa Cissé and Jamarion Sharp provide rim protection for Dallas, but they can’t score. The 7-5 Sharp managed just two points in 16 minutes against Charlotte. That’s not going to cut it against a 76ers team finding its defensive identity.

Philadelphia coach T.J. DiLeo has his team buying into defense-first basketball. They’re forcing turnovers and protecting the rim at an elite level. Against a depleted Dallas offense, that formula should produce another dominant performance.

The total combined 132 points when these teams met in regulation on Tuesday. Even if Edgecombe sits on the back-to-back, Philadelphia has enough depth to control this game. Take the under and lay the points with the 76ers.
