Denver Nuggets Betting Analysis

The Nuggets actually squandered a chance to clinch a postseason berth last time out, falling 116-97 to San Antonio. Denver’s loss actually clinched a berth in the Play-In Tournament for the Spurs, and wasted another Herculean effort by Nikola Jokic.

The league’s reigning Most Valuable Player splashed 41 points, grabbed 17 boards and dished out 4 assists, as he continues his quest for another MVP award. He’s averaging 36 points, 16 rebounds and 7.5 assists over his past six games, and is now an overwhelming favorite in the MVP odds.

Jokic was 18-of-35 from the field against San Antonio, but he was one of the lone bright spots for Denver. The rest of the team shot just 36% from the field, while Aaron Gordon was the only other Nugget to score in double-figures.

On the injury front, Jeff Green sat out against the Spurs due to personal reasons and is questionable to play versus Memphis. Head coach Michael Malone did offer an optimistic outlook this week on Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr, saying they could be returning soon. Murray (knee) hasn’t played all season, while Porter Jr. (back) has been out since November.

Memphis Grizzlies Betting Analysis

The Grizzlies are coming off their first loss in eight games, a 121-115 overtime loss to Utah. The defeat was Memphis’ first since March 18th, and just their sixth loss in their past 26 games overall.

Jaren Jackson Jr. led the offense with 28 points, while Tyus Jones splashed 24 points starting in place of Ja Morant. The Grizzlies all-world point guard missed his eighth consecutive game due to knee soreness and will sit again versus the Nuggets.

You’d think not having their star player would affect Memphis greatly, but that hasn’t been the case. The Grizzlies are an astonishing 20-3 when Morant sits this season.

Elsewhere on the injury front, Dillon Brooks sat out against the Jazz with a hip injury, and is currently listed as questionable to play on Thursday night.

As mentioned Memphis is locked into the 2-seed in the West and have been for some time. Despite not having much to play for lately, that hasn’t stopped them from cashing ATS tickets at a very high rate.

Nuggets vs Grizzlies Pick

The Grizzlies are 7-3 against the spread over their past 10 games, and have been a very profitable team to bet on when catching points. Memphis is 18-9-1 as an underdog this season, and have won outright in three of their past four contests as an underdog.

They’re a perfect 3-0 both straight and against the spread versus Denver this season, winning twice already as a ‘dog. They’ve also managed to do a phenomenal job defending Jokic, holding him below his season average point total (27) in two of the three meetings.

The Nuggets on the other hand have failed to cover in seven of their past 10 outings, and are just 22-17 straight up at home, compared to 25-16 on the road. They’ve also struggled badly on defense recently, surrendering at least 116 points in four consecutive games.

Yes, this is an important game for Denver’s playoff prospects, but even if they lose on Thursday, they’ll have a great chance to clinch a spot in the postseason on Sunday against a Lakers team with nothing left to play for.

Pick: Memphis Grizzlies +3 (-110)
