  • Sportsbooks have released a series of prop wagers on the 2019 NBA Draft
  • Duke’s RJ Barrett is expected to be gone before the fourth pick
  • Teammate Cam Reddish is favored to still be on the board beyond the seventh overall selection

Cam Reddish and the Duke Blue Devils endured a disappointing end to the NCAA basketball season. Favored to win the NCAA Tournament, they failed to make the March Madness Final Four.

Sportsbooks are anticipating that more disappointment could lay ahead for Reddish at the 2019 NBA Draft.

The sportsbook released a trio of Duke-related prop wagers on the draft. In one prop, they are setting the odds as unlikely that the Blue Devils trio of Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett and Reddish will all be selected among the first seven picks.

Reddish a Draft Wildcard

While it’s a given that Williamson is going first overall to the New Orleans Pelicans, the status of Barrett and especially Reddish are not nearly as written in stone.

In fact, small forward/shooting guard Reddish might be the most volatile player in play among the first 10 picks of the draft. NBA scouts are clearly disenchanted with the up-and down performances they’ve seen from him. They love the silky smoothness of his shot. They’re not nearly as enamored with its inconsistency.

There are questions about his mental toughness. As well, Reddish took a back seat to Williamson and Barrett as Duke’s third scoring option, so teams aren’t certain as to how he’ll fit in at the next level.

Going eighth to the Atlanta Hawks is a logical landing place for Reddish. The skill set he offers will slot in well with the pieces the Hawks already have put in place during their rebuild.

Two For Four?

Barrett isn’t likely to be waiting long to hear has name called on draft night. After Williamson, expect Murray State point guard Ja Morant to go second overall to the Memphis Grizzlies. Then at no. 3, the New York Knicks will absolutely be taking Barrett.

The 6’7″, 208-pound shooting guard/small forward is a talented wing who can score the basketball.

And with his 6’10” wingspan, he’s also a menace on the defensive side of the ball. Barrett is also an exceptional passer of the basketball.

There’s definitely two Blue Devils going in the top five, but three isn’t happening.

Is a Deal in the Works?

The one factor that could throw a monkey wrench in all of this is a rumor that the Pelicans might be dealing with the Grizzlies to get the no. 2 pick. They’d swap the no. 4 overall choice they got from the Lakers in the Anthony Davis trade.

The Grizzlies are concerned about Ja Morant, who recently underwent knee surgery.

New Orleans would do this in order to pair college buddies Williamson and Barrett in the pros.

The rumor suggests that the Grizzlies are concerned about Morant, who recently underwent knee surgery.

The problem with this talk is that Memphis is shopping point guard Mike Conley. The Grizzlies wouldn’t be looking to move Conley if they weren’t zeroed in on Morant.

Pick: No (-5000)
