  • Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns have each been suspended two games for their fight this week.
  • Ben Simmons was not suspended for his role in the altercation.
  • The Philadelphia 76ers and Minnesota Timberwolves will meet again on March 24th.

Joel Embiid and Karl-Anthony Towns have delivered NBA fans one of the most memorable moments of the young season.

Their on-court scrap and their online Twitter beef were quite entertaining, and now we’re left wondering if we’ll get more.

These teams meet again on March 24th in Minneapolis and props on the potential bout have been released, so let’s a closer look.

Odds Karl-Anthony Towns Will Throw the First Punch?

Who Will Throw The First Punch? Odds
Karl-Anthony Towns -135
Joel Embiid -105

All odds taken Nov. 1.

In Round 1, it looked like Embiid got the better of it, as Towns eventually ended up on the ground getting choked out by Ben Simmons. However, expect Towns to be far more prepared for Round 2. If things start to turn aggressive, I would expect Towns to be the man who is quick on the trigger.

Embiid likes to troll quite a bit and for the most part, his goal is just to get under people’s skin. He instigates verbally more so than anything else. I’m not expecting him to be the one who is physical first, though, as Towns is more likely to take this to another level.

Odds Ben Simmons Will Be Suspended for an Altercation?

Outcome Odds
Yes +1200
No -7500

Simmons got himself entangled in this mess – as did a lot of players on both sides – as he was trying to restrain Towns in the middle of the melee. Eventually, he ended up on top of his back with his hand around his neck, trying to submit him in what looked to be a UFC-like position.

For the rematch, I’m not expecting Simmons to be involved. Overall, I’m not expecting anything to go down the second time at all as the league and teams will speak to the players about it. As far as Simmons goes, he was an extraneous part of the battle and he’ll be told to stay out of it this time around.

Odds Jacqueline Cruz Is Ejected From the March 24th Contest?

Outcome Odds
Yes +1400
No -10000

In case you’re not familiar with Jacqueline Cruz, she’s the mother of Karl-Anthony Towns. She was in the stands when the two players got into it on Wednesday and as Joel Embiid was leaving the court after his ejection, she leaned over and started reprimanding him.

While the fans want to see more drama, I’m assuming that the league is going to take all sorts of precautions to avoid a second confrontation. Part of that will be removing Towns’ parents from the mix. In Philadelphia, they were sitting very close to the tunnel where the players come in and out.

I’m thinking that for the rematch, the parents will be put much further away from the tunnel, so that they won’t be able to talk or get at the players in any way. ‘No’ seems like the more likely of the two options here.

What this prop is asking is whether or not we’re going to see Round 2. At this point, I would bet against it as I don’t think anyone wants to see this again. Is it possible that tempers flare and the situation boils over again? Possibly. What’s more likely is that cooler heads will prevail and we won’t see a second bout.

To start, I wouldn’t be shocked if the 76ers simply take Embiid out of the equation here. Remember, this is a guy who is going to need to rest plenty of games this season for load management. A March game in Minnesota could be an opportune time. That would be the easiest way to deflate this.

At the same time, Embiid isn’t exactly a player with the healthiest track record, so he might even be injured at this point for all we know. There are a number of scenarios that this doesn’t account for outside of them playing and fighting.

Don’t forget that while tempers are flaring right now, March is six months away. These two guys will clearly remember their first battle but six months gives them a long opportunity to cool down. We’ve seen this before with Embiid and others like Andre Drummond.

They’ve had exchanges on the court on the court and on social media, and by the time the rematch comes around, they simply stick to basketball. That’s what we’ll see here with Embiid and Towns, so ‘No’ looks like the better of the two choices.
