After finishing the regular season on an NBA-best eight-game win streak, the Philadelphia 76ers stayed hot on Wednesday night, beating Miami 105-104 in the 7-vs-8 Play-In Game. The Sixers clinched the East’s #7 seed in the NBA playoff bracket in the process, setting up a first-round date with the New York Knicks.

With Joel Embiid seemingly healthy, the 76ers are no ordinary #7 seed, and oddsmakers have listed the series price at -130/+110 in favor of the Sixers.

The winner of the 76ers/Knicks series will face the winner of the #6 Indiana Pacers vs the #3 Milwaukee Bucks in the second round.

Philadelphia and New York haven’t met in the postseason since 1989, when the Knicks earned a three-game first-round sweep.

Knicks Took Three of Four From Sixers

While oddsmakers might not be terribly bullish on New York’s chances, the Knicks themselves have plenty of reasons for confidence. New York went 3-1 against Philadelphia in the regular season, including a dominant 110-96 road win on Jan. 5 while Embiid in the lineup.

Randle Done for the Season

The Knicks got disappointing news earlier this week when Julius Randle, who hasn’t played since Jan. 27, underwent shoulder surgery that will have him sidelined for at least five months.

Even though Randle only managed to play 46 games this season, the Knicks still finished with the best rebound percentage in the entire NBA (52.7%). The gap between the Knicks and second-place Golden State was the same as the gap between Golden State and seventh-place Phoenix.

The Sixers, who were without Embiid for the majority of the year, finished 22nd in that category at just 49.3%.

Game 1 between the Sixers and Knicks will take place on Saturday, April 20, at 6:10 pm ET, the third of four games on the opening day of the 2024 NBA playoffs. If there series goes the full seven games, it will conclude on Sunday, May 4, at Madison Square Garden.
