Pacers Surprising Everyone

Indy was supposedly heading into a rebuild, but 38 games in, it actually looks like this team could possibly make the playoffs thanks to their phenomenal young core. The Pacers currently occupy sixth place in the Eastern Conference and have proved they’re a force to be reckoned with. Tyrese Haliburton is a star in the making and is well on his way to an All-Star appearance in February, while Canadians Bennedict Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard are shaping up to be special in Year 1.

Rick Carlisle’s team took it right to the Raptors on Monday, with everyone getting in on the action. Mathurin led the charge with 21 points, while six others finished in double-figures as well. Indiana shot an impressive 48% from the field and 37% from deep, with sharpshooter Buddy Hield going 4 for 7 from beyond the arc all on his own.

The Pacers did a lot of their damage down low, outscoring Toronto 62-42 in the paint and outrebounding them 50-36. This is a very solid all-around team with numerous guys who can score the rock. Indy will have loads of confidence heading into Philly as they search for a fifth consecutive win.

Sixers Finally Healthy

It took a few months, but the 76ers’ NBA starting lineup is finally at full strength after Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and James Harden all dealt with injury problems. Maxey is still ramping up his workload after returning last Friday, but it won’t be long until he’s at regular minutes again.

The Beard and Embiid both starred in Monday’s win versus New Orleans, combining for a whopping 69 points. Embiid erupted for 42 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists in just 35 minutes of action, while Harden went off for 27 and dished out eight dimes.

Doc Rivers’ squad was uber-efficient, draining 43% of their triples shooting nearly 50% from the field. They also did a fantastic job of capitalizing on the Pelicans’ mistakes, translating 17 turnovers into 20 points. The Sixers flourish at Wells Fargo, capturing 15 of their 22 wins in front of the Philadelphia faithful. Embiid and Co. are also 8-2 in their last 10 games.

Pacers vs 76ers Prediction

Indiana is a gritty team and evidently performs well as an underdog. To me, 7.5 points are too steep considering how good the Pacers are playing. They’ll make it closer or just win altogether, which is why it’s worth splashing a bit of cash on the spread and moneyline.

Picks: Pacers +7 (-112), Pacers moneyline +250
