Pick #1: Hawks vs Pelicans

The Hawks are 2-1 so far heading into their preseason finale, beating the Bucks in back-to-back games in Abu Dhabi before losing to the Cavaliers on Wednesday, 105-99. Despite the outcome, it was a solid performance all-around for Atlanta. Four of their five starters finished in double digits, led by offseason acquisition Dejounte Murray, who had 17 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Backcourt partner Trae Young also dropped 14 and dished out six dimes. The Hawks shot 44% from deep, but just 34% from the field. Points in the paint were the difference, with Cleveland outscoring them 40-26.

We’ve finally been able to get a good look at the Pelicans with Zion Williamson back, going 3-1 in these tune-up games. But, he suffered an ankle injury on Wednesday and is questionable for this contest. It’s not expected to be serious, though. New Orleans lost to the Heat that night by 15 points in a rather dismal performance from the offense. Willy Hernangomez was surprisingly the best player for the Pels, scoring 14 points.

Atlanta has won six of their last seven against NOLA and covered in all but one matchup. Follow the trends here in the NBA preseason picks.

Pick: Hawks -2 (-110)

Pick #2: Nuggets vs Warriors

Denver is coming off a very good performance against the Clippers, beating them 126-115. The most promising part of the victory is that Nikola Jokic barely played, yet the rotation still flourished. Eight different guys had at least 10 points in a very well-rounded showing, with Ish Smith’s 15 off the bench a team-best. The Nuggets couldn’t miss from deep either, shooting 44%.

The Dubs get Draymond Green back on Friday after his incident with Jordan Poole and that should give them a nice boost. Dray in the lineup or not though, Golden State has looked good in preseason, posting a 3-1 record. They blew Portland out of the water earlier in the week by 33 points, despite Jordan Poole, Steph Curry, Andrew Wiggins, and Klay Thompson, among others, taking the night off.

Jokic is questionable here and the Dubs obviously have the Nuggets’ number dating back to the playoffs last season. With the spread at just four points, I’m liking the reigning champs.

Pick: Warriors -4 (-110)
