Two teams going in very different directions square off on Saturday afternoon as the Raptors visit the Pistons. Toronto (29-31, 10-18 away) has won three straight and six of seven, as they make a late season push for a top-six seed.
Detroit (15-45, 8-21 home) on the other hand, has dropped three straight and enter play in the Eastern Conference’s basement.
Online sportsbooks expect the Pistons’ struggles to continue, as they pegged the Raps as heavy road chalk in Saturday’s NBA odds.

Raptors vs Pistons Betting Trends
The Raps have taken each of the first two matchups with Detroit, and bettors expect a convincing win on Saturday. 59% of the spread wagers are on Toronto to cover, as is 58% of the ATS money. Winning games have not been a problem for the Raps lately, but they’ve been far from a cover machine this season.
Toronto is an even 30-30 ATS so far. On the road however, they’ve covered in only 12 of 28 games. As an away favorite, it’s been a disaster against the spread. The Raptors are just 1-8 ATS in that scenario, and failed to cover in their lone outing in Detroit this season.
Toronto is actually 0-2 against the spread versus the Pistons, despite winning both games. The Raps current form is fantastic, but there’s a strong chance they’re shorthanded on Saturday. Starting point guard Fred VanVleet is questionable due to personal reasons. He was excused from practice on Friday, after being a late scratch on Thursday prior to the team’s win in New Orleans.
Fred VanVleet is away from the team again today for personal reasons. Status for Saturday/Sunday remains uncertain.

VanVleet leads the team in assists (6.6) and ranks second in scoring (19.7). Toronto is 5-5 without him this season, although they’ve dropped five of the last eight contests he’s missed. One of those games was in Detroit, as the Raps squeaked out a 115-111 win over the Pistons.
Without VanVleet on Thursday, Toronto got 26 points from Pascal Siakam and 21 points and a career-high 18 boards from Jakob Poeltl. The Raps are 3-1 since reacquiring Poeltl from San Antonio, and blew a late 12-point lead versus Utah in the only game they’ve lost with him on the roster.
The Pistons meanwhile, have just four wins in their last 19 games. 10 of those 15 losses have come by at least eight points, while their minus-7.5 average score margin is the third worst in the NBA.
Detroit is fresh off a buzzer-beating loss to the Magic, in a game in which Jaden Ivey excelled. The top-four NBA ROY odds contender scored 25 points for the third time this season, knocking down five of seven threes. The Pistons have a solid young core of guys who can score, the problem is in their own end.
Raptors vs Pistons H2H Results This Season
Date | Away Team | Home Team | Result |
---|---|---|---|
Feb. 12, 2023 | Pistons | Raptors | TOR, 115-111 |
Nov. 14, 2022 | Raptors | Pistons | TOR, 119-118 |
After surrendering 108 points to Orlando, Detroit has yielded at least 100 points in 34 straight games. They rank 29th in scoring defense, while only two teams allow a higher field goal percentage to enemy shooters.
On the injury front, 13th overall pick Jalen Duren is trying to play through an ankle issue, but the results haven’t been great lately. After scoring 30 points versus the Spurs on February 10th, he’s produced just 10 points total in his last three starts.
Elsewhere, guard R.J. Hampton is day-to-day with an undisclosed injury, and there’s a chance Marvin Bagley returns after a lengthy lay off due to a hand issue.
Raptors vs Pistons Predictions
On paper, Toronto looks like the team to back in this spot, but laying 7 points without VanVleet is not something you should be running to the window to do. The Raps have struggled to win games without their star guard lately, and the ominous reporting surrounding his situation makes it seem like he’s more doubtful than probable to play.
Toronto has also been abysmal covering spreads on the road with or without VanVleet. The Pistons are by no means a cash cow for spread bettors, but they have showed signs of life recently. Detroit has covered in three of its last four, and in both matchups versus Toronto this season.
If Dwayne Casey had put as much energy as the Raptors Coach into beating Lebron, the way he does now into beating the Raptors, the Raptors would’ve had multiple finals appearances
— Sham (@shamwow712) January 15, 2022
Bench boss Dwayne Casey knows the Raps exceptionally well after being their head coach for seven seasons, and always has his team ready to face Toronto. Detroit is 9-5 all-time versus the Raps under Casey, covering each of the past eight matchups.
Pick: Detroit Pistons +7 (-110)
