The San Antonio Spurs (16-7, 7-5 away, 11-10-2 ATS, 13-10 O/U) and Los Angeles Lakers (17-6, 7-3 home, 15-8 ATS, 16-7 O/U) meet on Wednesday night in LA with a spot in Saturday’s NBA Cup semifinals on the line. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 pm PT/10:00 pm ET at crypto.com Arena with Amazon Prime providing the broadcast coverage.

With San Antonio star center Victor Wembanyama (26.2 PPG, 12.9 RPG, 4.0 APG, 3.6 BPG) still out with a calf injury, the Lakers are positioned as heavy favorites to advance.

Can the shorthanded Spurs pull off the road upset? This article will dive deep into the statistics, player props, key matchups, and betting trends to find the best Spurs vs Lakers picks.

Julian Champagnie9.5 (-115/-113)4.5 (+112/-148)1.5 (-200/+145)1.5 (+141/-191)

The NBA player props reflect expected roles for many Spurs, in particular De’Aaron Fox (24.3 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 6.5 APG), who has a points O/U of 22.5, an assist line of 6.5, and a rebound line of 4.5. The wide variance in Vassell’s three-point prop across different sportsbooks creates potential value opportunities for discerning bettors.

On the Laker side, the market heavily favors Luka Dončić’s playmaking responsibilities, with his assist over (9.5) juiced to -137. The over on LeBron James’ rebounding prop (8.5) also carries significant juice at -140.

Odds represent consensus lines across sportsbooks as of 3:30 pm ET.

Spurs vs Lakers Prediction: Picks & Best Bets for NBA Cup

With the stakes raised for this In-Season Tournament quarterfinal, the Spurs face an overwhelming task against a Lakers squad that has been formidable on its home court.

ATS Pick: Los Angeles Lakers -7.0 (-110) at Caesars Sportsbook

The trends strongly support the home team. The Lakers are an impressive 6-1 in their last seven games at home as a favorite. They know how to take care of business at Crypto.com Arena, and they now face a depleted Spurs roster.

While San Antonio has been resilient, losing a player of Wembanyama’s caliber on both ends of the floor is a devastating blow, particularly against the size and star power of the Lakers’ frontcourt. While a 7.5-point spread is considerable, the Lakers’ proven ability to win and cover in this spot, combined with the Spurs’ significant personnel disadvantage, makes laying the points the logical choice.

Over/Under Pick: Over 241.5 (-107) at BetRivers

While the Lakers should control the outcome, the game total presents another compelling angle. The line is set at a high 241.5, but trends suggest the scoreboard will be busy. The Spurs have been an over machine recently, with the total going over in five of their last six games, including four of their last five on the road. Without Wembanyama’s elite rim protection, the Spurs’ defense takes a massive hit. This forces them into a high-possession, offense-first game plan led by De’Aaron Fox to have any hope of keeping pace.

The Lakers have been the single-best over bet in the NBA this season, going 16-7 O/U (69.6% hit rate).

Best Player Prop: De’Aaron Fox Over 22.5 Points (-114) at FanDuel

With Wembanyama sidelined, the entire San Antonio offense will run through De’Aaron Fox. He will be tasked with creating nearly every scoring opportunity, both for himself and his teammates. His usage rate is set to skyrocket, and against a Lakers team that will be focused on putting up points, Fox will have no choice but to be aggressive from the opening tip.

Fox’s point total is set at 22.5, which is already nearly two points below his season average of 24.3 PPG. He’s comfortably gone over 22.5 in four of his last five games, scoring 25 or more in each of those four and averaging 24.9 PPG in that span.

Spurs vs Lakers Injury Report: Wembanyama Officially Out

Player (Team)PositionInjuryStatus
V. Wembanyama (SAS)F-CCalfOut
J. McLaughlin (SAS)GHamstringQuestionable
M. Kleber (LAL)FBackQuestionable

The official injury reports confirm the absence of San Antonio’s cornerstone big man. While both teams have players listed, the Spurs are dealing with a game-altering loss that dramatically shifts the dynamics of this matchup.

Wembanyama’s absence guts the Spurs on both ends of the floor, removing their elite rim protector, top rebounder, and a significant offensive presence. For the Lakers, forward Maxi Kleber is listed as questionable with a back issue, while Spurs guard Jordan McLaughlin is also questionable with a hamstring strain.

San Antonio Spurs vs Los Angeles Lakers Odds

The betting market for this In-Season Tournament lists the Lakers as 7.0 to 7.5-point betting favorites. Caesars currently has the best ATS price on Los Angeles at -7.0 (-110), while Fanatics has the best ATS price on San Antonio at +7.5 (-110).

On the moneyline, the best Lakers option is -275 at bet365. The best Spurs option is +230 at BetRivers.

BetRivers also has the best number for over bettors (Ov 241.5 at -107). Caesars has the best number for under bettors (Un 241.5 at -105).

A successful $20 wager on the Lakers’ moneyline (-270) would yield a profit of just $7.40. In contrast, a winning $20 bet on the Spurs (+230) would result in a handsome $46.00 profit.

SAS vs LAK Public Betting: Bettors Heavily Backing Lakers and the Over

The NBA public betting splits reveal a strong consensus, with the majority of wagers and, more importantly, the majority of the money, flowing in one clear direction. In this matchup, the public sentiment aligns squarely with my picks: a high-scoring Lakers victory.

  • Moneyline: Unsurprisingly, the public is overwhelmingly confident in the Lakers winning outright. Los Angeles is attracting a staggering 91% of all moneyline bets, but the crucial metric is the handle, where they command 91% of the money.
  • Point Spread: While not as lopsided as the moneyline, the public is also backing the Lakers to cover the spread: 61% of the bets are on the Lakers, but that number ticks up to 62% of the total handle.
  • Game Total (Over/Under): The most significant consensus is on the game total. A massive 80% of betting slips are on the over. Following the money reveals an even stronger conviction, with 85% of the total handle backing a high-scoring affair.
