Tuesday marks Brooklyn’s second game in as many nights since the Kyrie Irving trade. The controversial point guard was shipped off to Dallas on Sunday, leaving the Nets light on firepower. That’s especially true as Kevin Durant remains out, and to make matters worse, there are several other question marks on the Nets roster ahead of their matchup on Tuesday with the Suns.
While Brooklyn’s roster is decimated, Phoenix is getting its best player back for this contest. Devin Booker will make his long awaited return, and his presence has online sportsbooks feeling very bullish on the Suns in the NBA odds.

Phoenix Suns Betting Trends
Booker has been out since Christmas Day with a groin injury. The Suns (29-26, 10-17 away) struggled badly to start without their leading scorer, posting just two wins over 11 games. Interestingly enough, they began to turn things around when they faced Brooklyn on January 19th.
Phoenix got past the Nets 117-112 on its home court, and has proceeded to win eight of 10 games entering play on Tuesday. The Suns have beaten top NBA Championship odds contenders Boston and Memphis during that stretch, and rank tied for sixth in overall net rating over their past 10 contests.

Phoenix’s defense in particular has been impressive over this latest run, grading out second among all NBA teams over the past 10 outings. They’re holding enemy offenses to 107.7 points per 100 possessions, which is almost five points fewer than their season long mark.
Four the Suns past seven opponents have been held to 100 points or less, and Booker’s return will boost an offense that’s been mediocre at best without him. Booker averages 27 points per night, and scored 58 in his last game before his injury. He’s the only Phoenix player who scores more than 18 points per game, and one of only two primary rotational players to shoot better than 47% from the field.
Brooklyn Nets Betting Analysis
The Nets (32-20, 16-8 home) meanwhile, had been putting up fantastic offensive numbers prior to the Irving trade, even without KD. They scored at least 120 points in six of their past seven outings, ranking third in offensive rating over that stretch.
Their defense however, has taken a step back. After excelling in that category for the bulk of the season, Brooklyn grades out 28th in defensive rating over the past seven games. A major reason for that is the injuries they’re dealing with outside of Durant.

Here’s what we know so far about the Nets injury situation. T.J. Warren (shin) has been out for 10 days but was expected to play on Monday versus the Clippers. Ben Simmons (knee) was questionable for the matchup against LAC, while Seth Curry (adductor) was ruled out.
Newcomers Dorian Finney-Smith and Spencer Dinwiddie weren’t expected to suit up on Monday, and could make their Nets debut on Tuesday versus Phoenix.
For Dinwiddie, this marks his second tour of duty with Brooklyn. He spent five seasons with the Nets from 2016-2021, averaging a career high 20.6 points per night in his final campaign. He’ll be relied on heavily for offense with Durant out, as no other player on the current roster averages more than 13 points per contest.
Suns vs Nets Predictions
Phoenix boasts a top-seven cover rate this season, largely thanks to their recent form. The Suns are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games, and 6-2 against the spread in their last eight outings as visitors. They’ve beaten the number by an average of 16.5 points over their last two contests, and Booker’s return is going to elevate them back into contender status.
NBA Top ATS Record
Team | ATS Record |
---|---|
OKC Thunder | 32-19-1 |
Orlando Magic | 31-22-1 |
Philadelphia 76ers | 29-22-1 |
Milwaukee Bucks | 28-22-1 |
Phoenix Suns | 30-25-0 |
Brooklyn on the other hand, is going to take some time to figure out life without Irving. Removing him, and inserting Dinwiddie and Finney-Smith is going to result in some growing pains. Once KD returns, they’ll still be a top-five or six team in the East, but until now expectations should be kept low.
Expect an underwhelming performance from the Nets offense, and for the Suns to make a statement with their best player back in the mix.
Pick: Phoenix Suns -4.5 (-110)
