Week 7 of the college football season is a great time for bettors.

There’s enough of a sample size to get comfortable with the teams you like and the teams you don’t. That said, there’s reason to be optimistic about three underdogs, in particular, heading into this Saturday’s slate. Here’s the case for taking these three dogs to win straight up.

#3 Georgia vs #2 Alabama Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
#3 Georgia +6 (-110) +185 O 59 (-110)
#2 Alabama -6 (-110) -230 U 59 (-110)

Battle of Undefeated Teams In Tuscaloosa

The biggest matchup of the college football regular season will be played under the lights at Bryant-Denny Stadium. #2 Alabama hosts #3 Georgia in a battle between SEC heavyweights. The Bulldogs are six-point underdogs and are currently sitting at +185 on the moneyline. They are the pick here for two key reasons. Georgia’s depth at running back is spectacular and will help them control both the clock and tempo in this game. Star RB James Cook will return to join Kenny McIntosh, Kendall Milton, Zamir White and Daijun Edwards. The rotation of talented backs could all see playing time which will keep the Crimson Tide defense from punishing any one individual player.

The other reason to fade Alabama? This isn’t your grandfather’s Crimson Tide defense. So far this season they have given up 19, 24 and 48 points. Last week’s win over Ole Miss was so bad coach Nick Saban actually wondered out loud if the opposing team stole their defensive signals. The SEC as a whole has been brutal defensively but seeing a Saban coached outfit struggle that bad to keep opponents out of the end zone is something new. If they’ve had trouble with the likes of Missouri, Texas A&M and Ole Miss what do you think a top team like Georgia will do to them?

The Pick: Georgia Moneyline (+185)

#15 BYU vs Houston Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
#15 BYU -3.5 (-110) -150 O 63 (-110)
Houston +3.5 (-110) +123 U 63 (-110)

Houston Aims to Open Season With Back-to-Back Wins

Take four went just as planned for Houston. After postponed games against Rice, Baylor and North Texas the Cougars finally kicked off their season. The result was a 49-31 victory over Tulane that sets them up nicely heading into this Saturday’s tilt with #15 BYU.

Houston wide receiver Marquez Stevenson is an absolute problem for opposing defenses. He was named AAC offensive player of the week after stuffing the stat sheet against Tulane. He finished with five receptions, 118 yards and a touchdown to go along with his 97-yard kickoff return touchdown. The return TD was the third of his career and goes to show it was no fluke. He’s a nightmare whenever he takes the field and should test a BYU team early and often.

Another reason to be bullish on Houston as an underdog is BYU’s schedule so far this season. They enter the game with a perfect record but there really hasn’t been an opportunity to slip up. They have wins over Navy, Troy, Louisiana Tech and UTSA. That looks like an SEC non-conference schedule more than it looks like a lineup of talented football teams. Even still, BYU struggled to a 27-20 win over UTSA last week. This will be by far their toughest test to date and the underdogs have a good chance to come away with a 2nd straight win.

The Pick: Houston Cougars (+123)

Pittsburgh vs #13 Miami FL Odds

Team Spread Moneyline Total
Pittsburgh +10.5 (-110) +320 O 51 (-110)
#13 Miami FL -10.5 (-110) -420 U 51 (-110)

Will Miami Lose for a 2nd Straight Week?

Pittsburgh is an easy team to love getting 10.5 points with, but this is the case why you should pick them to win straight up. The Panthers are coming off back to back soul-crushing losses and should come out buzzing. Last week was a 31-30 loss in overtime to Boston College that came on a missed extra point. The week prior they fell 30-29 to NC State. Losses are always hard to take but those two, in particular, should have Pat Narduzzi and company ready to right the ship.

Across the field will be the Miami Hurricanes. They are fresh off a 42-17 beating at the hands of the top-ranked Clemson Tigers. It’s easy to dismiss a loss to a great opponent but let’s focus on how it happened for a moment. Miami allowed over 500 yards of offense and couldn’t seem to get their defense off the field. This week they play an opponent that plays tight games almost religiously. Before Pitt lost back-to-back games they beat Louisville 23-20. They are the perfect team to take advantage of the Hurricanes’ inability to get off the field on third down. Look for Pittsburgh to keep the game close and pick up the upset with a long drive late in the game.

The Pick: Pittsburgh Panthers (+320)
