There’s a first in store for everyone as the Miami (Ohio) RedHawks (11-2, 10-3 ATS) square off with the Appalachian State Mountaineers (8-5, 6-6-1 ATS) in the Avocados From Mexico Cure Bowl. This will be the inaugural meeting between these two schools on the football field.

Appalachian State finished third overall in the Sun Belt Conference, losing 49-23 to Troy in the conference title game. The Mountaineers are 5-1 straight up in their last six games.

Meanwhile, Miami was the first-place finisher in the MAC West Division. The RedHawks were 23-14 winners over the Toledo Rockets in the MAC Championship Game, avenging a 21-17 regular-season loss to the Rockets. Miami’s other loss was a 38-3 setback to their namesakes the Miami (Fla) Hurricanes.

Offensively, the run game powers the Miami attack. RB Rashad Amos has gained 895 yards on the ground. He’s run for 13 TDs. Amos could be a factor in this game. Appalachian State is the 110th run defense in the NCAA, allowing 1781 yards per game.

Cade McDonald is ninth in the nation in punt returns, gaining 12.7 yards per runback.

Miami (Ohio) vs App State Prediction

Prior to their loss to Troy, Appalachian State won four games in a row all at the expense of bowl-bound schools. The Mountaineers are a bowl game powerhouse. They were the first school in FBS history to win each of their first six bowl appearances.
