The College Football Playoff is finally here as the semifinals kick off on New Year’s eve. The first of two fantastic games features #2 Michigan against #3 TCU in Saturday’s Fiesta Bowl.

Jim Harbaugh’s Wolverines are 7.5-point favorites over the Horned Frogs, and oddsmakers are expecting Michigan to be able to limit TCU’s high-octane offense and control the clock with their run game.

The Big Ten champs boasted the nation’s sixth-best rushing attack this season, and even though star RB Blake Corum is out, the Wolverines have an extremely dangerous alternative in the backfield.

That would be Donovan Edwards, whose rushing yards over/under sits at 123.5. That’s 44 yards higher than TCU running back Kendre Miller’s, and Edwards is a strong bet to exceed that total.

Fiesta Bowl Prop #1: Donovan Edwards Over 123.5 Rushing Yards

Michigan’s ground game didn’t miss a beat when Corum went down in the second last week of the season. Edwards stepped in versus Ohio State, and ripped off 216 rushing yards and two scores. He followed up that performance with a 185-yard, one-TD performance in the Conference Championship Game, and averaged 8.5 yards per carry in those two outings.

Donovan Edwards Rushing Stats – Last Two Games

ATT YDS AVG TD
25 185 7.4 1
22 216 9.8 2

The Wolverines averaged 243 rushing yards and 5.6 yards per carry during the regular season, rushing at the nation’s eighth-highest rate. Their matchup versus the Horned Frogs’ defense is favorable, as TCU ranked 67th against the run this season.

Edwards’ rushing yards over/under prop varies wildly across different online sportsbooks so be sure to shop around. His prop can be found for as low as 123.5 yards or as high as 128.5 yards.

Pick: Donovan Edwards Over 123.5 Rushing Yards (-114) at FanDuel Sportsbook, 1 unit

Fiesta Bowl Prop #2: Kendre Miller Under 79.5 Rushing Yards

While we’re bullish on Edwards in this game, we’re bearish on Miller. The Horned Frogs’ lead RB is a future NFL talent, however, this is not a matchup for him to excel in.

Miler does the majority of his damage rushing inside. Per ESPN stats and info, 1,141 of his 1,342 rushing yards came between the tackles. The Wolverines’ run defense surrendered the second-fewest yards per carry in the country (2.9) and the third-fewest yards between the tackles.

As touchdown-plus underdogs game script is likely not going to be in Miller’s favor, which should reduce his volume. It’s easy to envision multiple scenarios where he falls short of this number, and few where he eclipses it.

Pick: Kendre Miller Under 79.5 Rushing Yards (-114) at FanDuel Sportsbook, 1 unit

TCU Defense +3800 +490

As far as the anytime TD market goes, Edwards’ -850 odds to find the end zone have got to be some kind of record. There’s no way we’re laying that kind of juice, but his teammate Luke Schoonmaker looks like a nice value.

Fiesta Bowl Prop #3: Luke Schoonmaker Anytime TD

He currently boasts +165 odds to score, and should be a prime candidate for some red zone looks. Schoonmaker scored three times this year and is an absolute nightmare to defend. He stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 250 pounds, making him virtually unguardable for any defensive back.

He led all tight ends in the country in yards per reception at 11.4, and one college football coach told ESPN he’s one of the best tight end prospects he’s seen in the last 20 years.

Pick: Luke Schoonmaker Anytime TD (+165) at FanDuel Sportsbook, 1 unit
