Best Early Betting Value

There are a few opening spreads that stand out, including one of the national semifinals.

Peach Bowl: LSU Offense Will Overpower Sooners Defense

No. 1 LSU has one of the most proficient offenses in the country and will challenge an Oklahoma defense that allowed 24.5 points per game this season in a weaker Big 12 Conference. Joe Burrow is the Heisman favorite and has turned in his best performances in his biggest games (Texas, Alabama, Georgia).

LSU’s defense is also hitting its stride, giving up just 2.84 yards per play on average in their last two games against Texas A&M and Georgia. The defense will limit the effectiveness of Jalen Hurts and CeeDee Lamb, while the offense will continuing doing what it’s done all season.

Even though this line has actually steamed up from around LSU -9.5 already, there’s still great value in betting the Tigers to cover as long as it stays under two touchdowns.

Pick: (LSU -13.0)

Citrus Bowl: Alabama Will Make Statement vs Michigan

Nick Saban and Alabama should be motivated in the Citrus Bowl against Michigan after losing to Auburn in the Iron Bowl and dropping all the way down to No. 12 in the rankings. While Tua Tagovailoa is out, Alabama still has a dozen talented players projected to be taken in the 2020 NFL draft.

Michigan hasn’t had an answer for strong offensive lines and dual-threat offenses this season, especially in losses to Wisconsin and Ohio State. That’s exactly what Alabama brings to the table with RB Najee Harris and an elite receiving corps led by Jerry Jeudy. Michigan will score on this low-ranked Crimson Tide defense, but it won’t be enough to cover the opening spread.

Pick: Alabama (-7.0)

Cotton Bowl: Penn State Defense Will Be Too Much For Memphis

Penn State has good opening value against Memphis in the Cotton Bowl due to their elite defense. The Nittany Lions have shut down talented QB’s this season and gave No. 2 Ohio State their closest game of the season. Brady White and Kenneth Gainwell lead a talented Memphis offense, but they haven’t had to face a defense like Penn State’s yet.

The Tigers are also at a disadvantage with head coach Mike Norvell recently stepping down to become Florida State’s head coach. Ryan Silverfield has been named interim head coach of the Tigers, and he’ll have his hands full going up against six-year Penn State head coach James Franklin. QB Sean Clifford missed the game against Rutgers, but he should be healthy for the Cotton Bowl and will go to work alongside K. J. Hamler against a susceptible defense.

Pick: Penn State (-7.0)
