#7 TCU’s (8-0, 5-0 Big 12) pursuit of a perfect season continues in Week 10 as they host Texas Tech (4-4, 2-3 Big 12). After a stretch of four straight victories over ranked opposition, this will be the second consecutive unranked opponent for the Horned Frogs, with #24 Texas looming next week.
TCU currently sits atop the Big 12 standings at 8-0, boasting a two-game lead over both Kansas State and Oklahoma State. Oddsmakers expect their unbeaten streak to continue in the college football odds, as they pegged the Horned Frogs as the sizeable home chalk.

TCU Horned Frogs Betting Analysis
Despite their perfect record, TCU is still considered a longshot to make the College Football Playoff. They’re currently +700 to be among the four teams duking it out for the National Title, despite having odds nearly twice as short any other Big 12 team to win the conference.
Ridiculous that TCU is 7. Committee’s love affair with Alabama continues.

Next week’s matchup versus Texas is the only other ranked opponent on their schedule that finishes at Baylor and home to Iowa State. The Horned Frogs are as explosive as any program in the FBS on offense, and they proved that again last week.
TCU put up 41 points versus West Virginia, on the strength of three long Max Duggan touchdown passes. Duggan connected for scores of 71, 55 and 29 yards, while the Horned Frogs also got a 51-yard TD run from Kendre Miller.

They rank sixth in offensive efficiency, while each of their top-four receivers average over 15 yards per catch. That unit is led by junior Quentin Johnston who’s averaged 117 yards and a touchdown through the air in his last four contests.
Not to be outdone, the backfield is also extremely explosive as their top-three rushers average 6.6 yards per carry.
On the other side of the ball, it’s a different story. The Horned Frogs rank 58th in defensive efficiency, and 76th in points allowed per drive. They’ve yielded at least 28 points in five of their last six games overall, and rank bottom-six in the conference in scoring defense.

That spells trouble against Texas Tech, who are averaging 34 points per outing.
Texas Tech Red Raiders Betting Analysis
The Red Raiders enter play having dropped three of four, but their offense certainly isn’t to blame. They’ve scored at least 28 points in four of games versus ranked opposition this season, and rank 23rd in total offense.

Like TCU, their problems lie on defense. Texas Tech is fresh off coughing up 45 points at home to Baylor, and have allowed 34 points or more in four of their past five overall. They rank 107th in opponent points per play and 128th in opponent red zone success rate.
They’ve been better against the pass than the run (82nd vs 45th), but against a Horned Frogs team that is explosive both through the air and on the ground, expect the Red Raiders to bleed north of 30 points once again.
Texas Tech vs TCU Prediction
Given their offensive prowess and defensive inefficiency, it’s no surprise that Texas Tech games tend to exceed the total. The over is 6-2 in their eight contests, and 4-1 in Big 12 play.
The same thing can be said for the Horned Frogs, who are also 6-2 to the over. Five of TCU’s last seven outings have cleared 70 points, and the ones that didn’t fell 1 and 4 points short respectively.

Another reason to be optimistic about the over is the pace at which both teams play at, in particular the Red Raiders. Texas Tech averages a nation-high 94.7 plays per game. That’s 11 more than any other team in the country, and over the last three games, that number is north of 97.
The Horned Frogs average around 70 plays per game, but lately they’ve picked up the pace. They’re averaging 75.3 plays over their past three contests, the 37th most in the FBS.
Pick: Over 69.5 (-110)
