Tennessee Betting Trends

Unfortunately for the Volunteers, Hendon Hooker suffered an ACL tear right before the end of the regular season and will miss this game. Until that time the senior had led one of the most prolific passing offenses of the season. The one-time Heisman favorite led the top-scoring offense in the nation while throwing for 3,135 yards and 27 touchdowns with just two interceptions.

Head coach Josh Heupel’s offense also led the nation in total offensive yards per game (527) and ranked 2nd in yards per play (7.1) and yards per pass (9.8).

Fortunately, the Volunteers have former Michigan quarterback Joe Milton on hand to start the Orange Bowl. Milton has both the experience and arm talent to keep this Tennessee offense on track. That being said, he will certainly miss the presence of star wide receivers Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman who have opted-out for the NFL draft.

Intriguingly, Tennessee is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Friday games.

Clemson Betting Trends

Head coach Dabo Swinney will be without three of his top players for the Orange Bowl. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei has transferred to Oregon State, while top pass-rusher Myles Murphy and linebacker Trenton Simpson have entered the NFL draft.

Thankfully, Cade Klubnik can step right in for the Orange Bowl. Swinney yanked Uiagalelei in favor of Klubnik against North Carolina, and Kubnik led the Tigers to a blowout. The freshman threw for 279 yards and a touchdown and looked comfortable directing the Clemson offense.

While the Clemson defensive front is particularly stout on paper, they have been exploited this season. Notre Dame ran all over the Tigers, while Spencer Rattler and South Carolina lit up the Clemson secondary. Josh Heupel’s offense has proved its mettle against the toughest defenses in the country this season. Milton may not be Hooker, but the Volunteers should be able to move the ball on Friday night.

Having said all that, Dabo is awesome at winning bowl games. Swinney is 10-4 in Clemson’s last 14 bowl games, with the only losses coming in the College Football Playoff.

Tennessee vs Clemson Prediction

Although Clemson has a far more dangerous defensive front seven, with Murphy and Simpson out, the Tennessee offense will be able to move the ball on the Tigers.

While Klubnik is a far more prestigious quarterback than Milton, the senior has just enough juice to keep Tennessee’s offense clicking. We feel like Clemson is slightly overvalued here. Take the points and Tennessee to cover the spread in the Orange Bowl.

Tennessee vs Clemson Pick: Tennessee +5.5 (-110)
