The total sits at a relatively high 70 points, which makes sense. Both programs have efficient offenses but struggle to get stops defensively.

Red Raiders Coming in Hot

While it’s been more than a month since either team played, Texas Tech certainly finished the season on a high note. They won their final three games, taking down Kansas, Iowa State, and Oklahoma in Week 13 by a score of 51-48 in overtime.

The Red Raiders had three different quarterbacks feature throughout the campaign, but with Donovan Smith transferring to Houston and Behren Morton having missed time with injury, it looks like Tyler Shough will start his fourth straight contest Wednesday.

The signal-caller did a fantastic job during the unbeaten run and really balled out against the Sooners, completing 31 of 50 passes for 436 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. While Morton could see some playing time in the Texas Bowl, Shough should take most of the snaps.

Defensively, TTU is by no means great and may face problems on the ground, especially with freshman phenom Quinshon Judkins coming off an insane year.

Ole Miss Will Rely on Ground Game

As previously mentioned, Judkins is an absolute beast and a huge reason the Rebels’ offensive success. He ran for 1,476 yards and 16 TDs in 2022 for an average of 5.9 yards per carry. Ole Miss ranked seventh nationally in rushing yards. Zach Evans also racked up 899 yards on the ground and eight scores.

QB Jaxson Dart had a respectable season as well, throwing for over 2,600 yards, 18 touchdowns, and getting picked eight times. The dual-threat signal-caller also contributed to Lane Kiffin’s dynamic run offense, going for 4.7 yards per carry.

Although Ole Miss finished with an 8-4 record, they actually lost four of their final five games after winning seven in a row to begin the season. Week 13 was a 24-22 defeat to rivals Mississippi State. Needless to say, they need a victory and there’s no better time than Wednesday in their first-ever appearance in the Texas Bowl.

Texas Tech vs Ole Miss Prediction

The pick that is staring me right in the face is the over. Two of the last three meetings surpassed 80 points. The total is set at 70.  You got two very good offenses but sub-par defenses. Lock this one in.

Also, it’s worth taking the Ole Miss moneyline considering their past success against Texas Tech. Judkins should be in for a huge day against one of the worst rush defenses in the Big 12.

Texas Bowl Picks: Over 70 Points, (-110), Ole Miss Moneyline (-170)
