Expect to See a Lot of Joe Montana on Super Sunday
As game day rapidly approaches, increasing attention has been given to the Super Bowl histories of both the 49ers and Chiefs. The fan bases of both these teams have laid claim to Joe Montana as one of their own. The Hall-of-Fame quarterback led the 49ers to four Super Bowl victories, but spent the final two seasons of his NFL career under center in Kansas City, leading the Chiefs to their first AFC Championship Game appearance since their win in Super Bowl IV.

Not surprising, Montana is pegged as strong -400 favorite to attend Sunday’s game, and to appear on the television broadcast at some point. Indeed, the cameras are expected to be on the lookout for the Comeback Kid, fueling -150 odds that he will appear on the broadcast before former Niners stars Jerry Rice and Steve Young, who sport +130 and +450 odds, respectively.
And while Montana’s Super Bowl legacy will be forever linked to the 49ers, it will be difficult to overlook his tenure in Kansas City as the Chiefs make their first Super Bowl appearance in 50 years, adding value to the already lucrative +140 odds of a clip or pic of Montana playing for the Chiefs being part of the broadcast.
Picks: Montana to appear first (-150); Clip or pic of Montana as a Chief to appear (+140)
Len Dawson Image the Stuff of Super Bowl Legend
Montana elected to wear No. 19 during his two years in Kansas City despite being offered his familiar No. 16 by Len Dawson. The hero of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl IV upset victory over the Minnesota Vikings, Dawson claimed Super Bowl MVP honors in that contest and had his number retired by the team after his NFL career ended in 1975.

Still a fan favorite in Kansas City, Dawson has become a familiar face to subsequent generations of fans in his role as a sports broadcaster covering the Chiefs. Dawson is also the subject of an iconic photograph taken at halftime of Super Bowl IV, depicting the four-time AFL passing touchdowns leader smoking a cigarette and enjoying a frosty cold bottle of Fresca.

While it is unclear whether the 84-year-old will be in attendance at Sunday’s clash, he is unlikely to be overlooked by broadcasters Joe Buck and Troy Aikman, with the odds of his legendary Super Bowl IV photo being shown on the broadcast listed at +550.
Pick: Clip or pic of Len Dawson smoking a cigarette to appear (+550)
Kaepernick Likely to Be Overlooked
Speculation has also heightened over potential broadcast coverage of another former Niners pivot. Colin Kaepernick led San Francisco in a losing effort in their most recent Super Bowl appearance seven years ago, a 34-31 defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl 47.

Of course, Kaepernick has since gone on to gain widespread notoriety for his highly publicized anthem protests during the 2015 and 2016 NFL seasons, and his controversial ad campaign with Nike. Despite his heightened profile, Kaepernick is not expected to be a part of this year’s Super Bowl broadcast, with heavy -1600 odds of no Nike commercial featuring the 32-year-old being aired during the game.
Kaepernick is also a longshot to have his name mentioned during the broadcast, but the odds vary widely between sportsbooks
Kaepernick is also a longshot to have his name mentioned during the broadcast, as a short -300 bet to not be mentioned, while a wager on no mention of the former Niner pays out on far more attractive -130 odds.
Pick: Colin Kaepernick’s name not mentioned (-130)
Andy Reid in the Spotlight
Andy Reid is set to make his second Super Bowl appearance this weekend and has been far from overlooked on the props. The Chiefs head coach made headlines with his response to a question on how he celebrated the team’s 35-24 win over the Tennessee Titans in the AFC Championship game.
Since responding that he “had a cheeseburger and went to bed”, fans and sports bettors have been hoping that the 61-year-old will follow up with a fast-food feast on Super Sunday. And with the high-powered Chiefs poised to enter Sunday’s contest as betting favorites, serious consideration must be given to the possibility that Reid might celebrate a victory on Sunday by eating a cheeseburger before the end of the broadcast and rewarding fearless sports bettors with a payout on +1200 odds.

Reid is also pegged as a favorite to be captured by the camera before his 49ers counterpart Kyle Shanahan. While Reid is deadlocked with Shanahan as a -120 bet to be mentioned first and to be shown first on camera, the Chiefs bench boss edges out Shanahan as a +110 bet to be the first head coach shown during the signing of the national anthem.

Wagering is also available on whether the now-famous video of Reid participating in a Punt, Pass, and Kick competition as a 13-year-old will be shown as part of the broadcast. While pegged as a longshot, the intense media focus on Reid leading up to the game makes a wager on that video being aired worth a flyer, which is offering appealing +250 odds.
Picks: Reid eats a cheeseburger during broadcast (+1200); Reid’s Punt/Pass/Kick video aired (+250)
Garoppolo, Brady, Patriots Wagers Go Hand-in-Hand
A host of props are available covering mentions of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. The odds of Brady being mentioned sit at a short -300, while the odds of Aikman or Buck uttering the name Patriots is also pegged at +300.

While those odds provide little value on their own, they remain no-brainer bets for sports bettors also planning to wager on a mention that 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo started his career with the Patriots, which pays out at +100.
Picks: Mention that Garoppolo started with Patriots (+100); Mention of Brady (-300); Mention of Patriots (-300)
Trump’s Presence Likely to Be Felt
Elsewhere on the Super Bowl props, there is currently no indication that US President Donald Trump will be in attendance at Super Bowl 54. However, Trump is expected to take advantage of Sunday’s massive TV audience with a campaign ad and is favored with -270 odds to have his commercial hit the airwaves before an expected campaign ad by Democratic candidate Michael Bloomberg.

In addition, it remains a toss-up as to which team’s cheerleaders will be shown first following the opening kickoff, with both Kansas City and San Francisco sporting -110 odds, but with the Chiefs perched as narrow favorites to score first on Sunday, the edge must be given to Kansas City’s cheerleaders to capture the camera first.
Pick: Trump commercial airs first (-270)
