The Carolina Panthers are trading veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen to the Minnesota Vikings. In addition to Thielen, the Panthers are sending a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2026 draft and a fifth-round pick in the 2027 draft. The Vikings are trading a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 fourth-round pick in exchange for the 35-year-old receiver. Minnesota will pay the rest of his salary.

Originally undrafted out of Minnesota State, Thielen played the first nine seasons of his career with the Vikings. He caught 534 passes for 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns. He also had 24 catches for 331 yards in six playoff games. He is a two-time Pro Bowler and 2017 Second-Team All-Pro.

DraftKings was quick to post updated odds on Thielen’s receiving benchmarks in the 2025 regular season.

Thielen is one of the five best receivers in Vikings history, rounding out a group that features Cris Carter, Randy Moss, Anthony Carter, and Justin Jefferson. Thielen has career-highs of 113 catches, 1,373 receiving yards, and 14 receiving touchdowns, marks that are fourth, eighth, and fifth, respectively, in Vikings’ single-season history.

Thielen slots in as Minnesota’s WR2 while Jordan Addison misses the first three games of the season. Complicating matters, both Justin Jefferson and Jalen Nailor are dealing with injuries. Additionally, expected WR4 Rondale Moore already suffered a season-ending injury.

Thielen’s Franchise Ranks with Vikings

StatTotalFranchise Rank
Receptions5343rd
Receiving Yards6,6825th
Receiving Touchdowns553rd

Jefferson is anticipated to be back in time for Week 1, but Nailor’s hand injury could affect him in the regular season. Thielen’s reunion makes total sense, particularly early in the season.

Adam Thielen Best Bet: 5+ Touchdowns (+125)

Given a loaded receiving corps once Addison returns, the best bet is for Thielen to rack up the touchdowns. He has at least four touchdowns in each of the last nine seasons – a feat only matched by Davante Adams, Amari Cooper, Mike Evans, and Tyreek Hill. Thielen has caught at least five touchdowns in seven of nine seasons. For the higher upside bets, he has three seasons with at least eight touchdowns and two seasons with 10 or more.

The yardage prop is pretty outlandish given that Thielen is at best the third-best option with Addison suspended behind Jefferson and tight end T.J. Hockenson. Once Addison returns, Thielen will be the WR3/fourth option in the passing attack. Aaron Jones is also a factor, averaging three catches per game in 2024.

Last season, three Vikings surpassed five receiving touchdowns: Jefferson (ten), Addison (nine), and Nailor (six). While new starter JJ McCarthy likely won’t throw 35 touchdowns as Sam Darnold did last season, he could find a quick rapport with Thielen, particularly in the red zone. The Vikings have had at least three players catch five touchdowns in each of the last seven seasons. Last season, 61 players across the NFL caught at least five touchdowns.

The path here is for Thielen to be a go-to weapon on key downs and distances while Jefferson and Addison dominate between the 20s. Ideally, McCarthy would trust the veteran Thielen to haul in passes in the red zone. Thielen has been a reliable pair of hands his entire career, dropping just 4.1% of his catchable targets, according to PFF. He has also caught 13 of 22 (59%) of his contested targets in the last two seasons.

With his veteran savvy and excellent hands, back Thielen to haul in at least five touchdowns at plus-money.
